Hybrids are made out to be a compromise between a road bike and a MTB, so people should expect
them to be a decent commuter/town bike, cannot see the problem myself. Am I missing something?

In the discussions about what a hybrid is, I don't see much agreement. If we are talking about a
bicycle which may or may not have any given feature of a road or a mountain bike, I may or may not
have a positive opinion of that particular feature. If they are commuter/town bikes, then that
introduces another whole bunch of possible features not standard on either road or mountain bikes.
So, unless someone pins down what exactly the features of a hybrid are, I still won't be passing
comment on them as a class of things. I hope the b-arkers who came up with this supposed class of
bicycles get their synergy leveraged.

I suppose that little rant effectively means I just put my hand up, but in a sort of a limited way,
with no specific bike necessarilly less than its made out to be, irrespective of jargon.

Well, hybrid is just another way of saying mixture isn't it? At least in the context of
cycles anyway.

have already had the conversation!

i agreed to the replacement on thursday afternoon ... they ordered friday, their suppliers dont do
weekends so should have been today or tomorrow ... i will be having another conversation tomorrow

I've just bought a TREK 7100fx hybrid for £270 and so far - touch wood - the bike has not met any
problems although I've noticed a strange clicking noise when cycling.

Other than that I'm very much satisfied with my choice.

Since marketing people will make *anything* out to be better than it is, up goes my hand. As it will
for just about anything else.

My main bikes (a Streetmachine GT recumbent tourer and a Brompton folder) are both less than is
routinely claimed for them, but it doesn't mean they aren't good, or I could have chosen better. I
have yet to see anything else I feel I should've bought instead.
