I am looking into getting my first computer and I think I have narrowed it down to 2 computer: The Cateye Strada (wired version), and the Planet bike Protege 9.0. The Protege does everything the strada does from what I can tell but it also has temperature which I am not all that sure I need. Also it has a lifetime warranty which would be very nice and perhaps worth the extra cost.
The strada is cheaper and doesn't have temperature. Also my LBS where I get all my gear carries them so I wouldn't have to wait for shipping.
My buddy I ride with has the protege and it seems to work well though I haven't really messed with it myself.
Any help would be great kinda leaning towards the strada at the moment.
I like Cateye as well. Mity 8 started acting up last month (intermittant readings not helped by cleaning the contacts), so replaced it with the identical model. Suspect the old mount may have loosened up in 7 years/26K miles as the new one seems to click in much more firmly.
It's not a fancy computer, but does all the basic functions with reliability and ease of operation on just a single battery which lasts for years. For $20, it's hard to beat unless you have to have cadence or wireless.
