  1. Well on Tuesday the magpie finally got me! Afer many weeks of it tapping
tapping tapping away on my helmet with me screaming at it and waving hands
it realised that on the side of the helmet was flesh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAn
you imagine riding down Red Hill (near home) flat out with the shadow of a
magpie flapping around in the air, tapping on ya helmet? Can you imagine
that blardy magpie flapping beside you so as you went flat out down the hill
it was flying beside your ear????? It took a chunk out of my ear! along with
my earring 🙂. I had to stop as I was in pain and it continued its
assault...........LOL needless to say that after work I went the long way
home and added 12kms to my round trip.
Today I beat the bugger - I wore a huge brim under my helmet and really put
pedal to the metal, and did a top speed of 48 kms an hour down the hill. I
could see its shadow, but it was too slow wooooooooohoooooooooooo
I did ride home the long way tho, as going up hill is a different story. How
long is this damn maggie going to attack me for? It has been 6 weeks now.
Oh the only good thing about it is that my ride to work is now 25 kms long
instead of 12 and I am feeling great.
    Kathy.

Have you considered investing in a motor bike helmet? 🙂

    Ouch...

Sticking 'eyes' on your helmet works (tho' it doesn't do much for the ego...)

Is that Red Hill in the ACT?
If so get in touch with Environment ACT and they will do something about said bird (trust me on this!)

I annoyed one of his mates a few days ago. Collected one with my car

road and bounced off my bonnet and then landed on my windscreen
squawking like mad. Didn't injure him, apart from the loss of a few

On the part of the humans or the birds?

These magpies are vicious and very agressive when loaded with
testosterone in the breeding season, which should be over soon. They
have been responsible for many serious injuries, including loss of
    eyes.

Humans, of course! We don't seem to do potentially fatal wildlife over
here so I have unrepentantly fuzzy feelings about everything except
    people. Well, some people.

    Humans, of course!

At least the humans are capable of restraint. I slowed down in my car
so that I wouldn't kill the little birdie (aka evil bugger). Mind you,
if it attacks me and I get a chance, I'll wring its neck. Probably get
done for messing with a protected species.

Well, of course you don't. You've killed them all off because they
were dangerous to humans :-) We're much more civilised here. We only
squirt them with water bottles. Except where it comes to um .... Hey,
Dave, have you told Sara about cane toads or shouldn't we mention
    them?

Ah - that was the old 'we'. The new 'we' are far more fuzzy and
wouldn't dream of doing such a thing. The change from old to new
seemed to occur at about the same time that people stopped wearing hats
as a matter of course; wonder if there's a connection? There's even
been talk of re-introducing wolves into parts of Scotland. Not that I
would normally count Scotland as part of 'we', but sometimes I'm
    prepared to stretch a point.

Why do I get the feeling this part of the conversation is _not_ going
to go well? Did Dave mention I'm scared of, well, almost everything?

*shivers* that film gave me nightmares for many of my formative years.
