Vicki...am so glad for you, I hope that pumping will do the same as it did for me..A great A1c of
5.8 last Nov. and the best control ever...wish I would have done this many moons ago. Your life will
be better, and your options as to more freedom of when and where to eat etc. are the great!! It will
take awhile for you to get all the basals and bolus numbers figured out...so don't give up, just do
what the pump instructor or CDE (am not sure they have those in Canada) and you will be

retinal photography in diabetics. It's only going to cost me CDN$80 to get the photos done, and
insurance will cover it. They're sending a copy to my opthal (snicker

an Insulin Pumpers Support Group that has formed in the Montreal Area in the past 6 months. If

Congrats! One of the happiest days of my life was when the Fed X package came one Saturday morning
with my MiniMed 506 pump, paid for in full by Guardian insurance. Shortly thereafter I received a
507 w/o paying the upgrade fee, after MUCH heated negotiation with the MiniMed regional sales rep.

I had one retinal study done about 10 years ago but only because of a vision anomaly. Now my current
insurance won't allow to to visit the retinal specialist for my yearly check up because I don't have
any vision "problems" to speak of.

Vicki, I don't know what books Animas suggests or provides, but a book co-authored by Walsh, "The
Insulin Pump Therapy Book" is an excellent primer on the subject. Highly recommended.

Do you know if you are expected to pump saline for 2 days before going live with insulin? Are you
gonna use Humalog? That's what I use; I started with Velosulin, but it's too slow for my tastes.

AFTER she gets her pump if she is at Tony Roma's she should try the apple cobbler. That is the best
desert I've had in any resturant. (And tons of sinful carbs, including ice cream). The only thing
that comes close is my mother's ollaberry dessert.

Congratulations! I've been pumping for over 8 years now, and will never look back. The improvement
in both my quality of life AND control was just incredible.

After you've got things nailed down a bit, go out and get yourself your favorite dessert to
celebrate (don't do it ALL the time, of course ;-) )

Congrats, Vicki. I think you made a good choice in the Animas, although I have never used one. It is
the direction in which I am probably headed when it's time for me to replace my current Minimed.

My very limited experience with the Animas staff has been much better than that of Minimed's.

I have been watching this thread and the title 'I'M GETTING A PUMP!!!!!' Has afforded me a few
laughs. That is if you define a Pump as a cycle tyre inflator. you might want to re read some of the
posts with that in mind.
