Anyway you know you're set for life - you're the most powerful person
on the planet, and when you can retire you can write lousy books that
will still sell like hotcakes.

However, you're going to be under a microscope, and every time you
burp in public your political enemies are going to run it up the flag
pole. This is going to happen even after you leave office.

Now under those circumstances, why in the world would you really worry
about taking the chance of public humiliation, disgrace and the loss
of future income (not to mention prison time) by trying to accept
bribery from a huge government contractor like Halliburton? You
wouldn't even be able to spend the money since your finances are
public knowledge, and spending more than you make will be pretty
obvious (kinda like John Kerry borrowing $6M on "his" house, but
that's legit - just not really "his" house).

Not sure, but this has baffled me. the ceos of enron, and mci did such
a thing, so did the ceos of the savings and loans in the early 80s.
these are hyper rich people that will do anything to get more than
what they already have. why they do this is a mystery to me.
