Info needed on Paramount Frame

Late 1980s or early 1990s Japanese-built (rather than Waterford-built).

If it's made from Tange tubes, the bike is a "Jappa-mount", not a
"REAL" Paramount. It was made in Japan or Taiwan after the Paramount
Design Group broke off from Schwinn, and started making bikes in
Waterford Wis. Strangly, the bikes are named "Waterford".

Nothing strange there. The "Paramount" name is owned by the Schwinn
Company, hence the fact that Richard Schwinn's own company is called
Waterford Precision Bicycles. He can't use the Schwinn trademarks
like his own name, the "Paramount," "World," etc. names. Welcome to
US trademark law.

Your history is a little inaccurate, BTW. This group didn't "break
off" from Schwinn. The sale of the Schwinn company- to Scott? Or was
there someone in between?- specifically did not include the Waterford
facility.

The frame was probably made in 1992. Schwinn imported these frames
for a while. I have one and really like it.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Those were built in the
Panasonic PICS/POS department and are at the same quality
level as the US versions. Nice paint, too.

I have a Paramount series frame and I like it a lot. Here some info I
have: frame wt. 4.9 lbs, Tange 188 fork wt. 1.5 lbs, seatpost dia.
27.2mm. The frame I have came with 126mm rear spacing. As for angle
I'll have to look up an old Bicycle mag. that had the specs. and I'll
Email them to you in a day or so.
One thing about the frame, I had some rust on the bottom of the down
tube @ the at the upper lug it appeared as bubbled paint and I have
noticed this on a few frames.
FYI decals for this frame are not available but Waterford will sell
you some Paramount decals. Don't worry what people say about the frame
being from Japan it still a nice riding bike good luck.

That's "Pretendamount". It's OK though. Mine is 12 years old and
will get a new paint job this year to extend its years of service.
The $125 I paid for this frame third-hand is the best money I ever
spent on bicycling equipment.
