I overheard a worker at the Sydney Casino who lived at Grenfell about 300 K
west of Sydney and drove to Sydney ( slept in his car for a few nights/days
while working then drove back). Quite a few commute from places like Bowral
or even Goulburn I'd say.

The longest bike commute I have heard of is Emu Plains near Penrith to
Ashfield, about 40 k. Also a bike mechanic or maybe one of the managers at
Clarence St said he rode from Dural to the City regularly.

I heard of someone adding a 100km detour in the morning to make it a
decent training ride.

weekdays. 🙂

pffft - that's not far. Even I've commuted 40 km! ;^) Living in the Blue
Mountains almost forces a long commute on you.

Mine was 26km from home to uni, just perfect for a Wednesday morning
run, with a few laps of St Lucia to bring it up to the early-mid
thirties.

These days it's only 16km or so, so I have to add some loops...

Nope. The 16km run is suitable for twice in a day, but the 33km is a
bit too far, mostly because it ends up taking just under six hours of my
day ;-) It works well on the bike though.

The morning commute for us is via Centennial for a few laps to make the distance in to drop my wife to work about 35kms. I then ride home which is where I work from until I ride back in the evening to pick her up and ride home again.
85 to 90kms for me and 45kms for her. We only do this 2 or three times a week though.

I find this is far enough for me

my commute to the office is an 85 km round trip. Havent done it since earlier this year thanks to mtb needing mechs and needing the (what would be commute) time to do other (bike related) stuff. Now I have the prewinter, afraid of the morning chill blues! Or maybe I just ate too many easter eggs?

I think I might be deluding myself. Part of the reason I didn't ride
Monday was certainly soreness, but I think the biggest reason was it
was just so damn comfortable in bed, and so cold outside.

And of course, any sign of soreness will increase in severity when exposed to cold 😉

Once I get back into the commute routine, and get the first "darkness run" outta the way, I'll be ok. The 1st one is always the hardest!

You also know Tim, that any chocolate eggs eaten the week prior to Easter do not count as Easter eggs, and therefore must be replaced for appropriate Easter Sunday consumation?? :p

From my really un-scientific sample (three years yakking with other
cyclists at the lights on pretty much the same route) around about 20km
each way seems to be the sweet spot.
