  1. I beat lama, I beat lama! <jumps up and down>

OK, so I was about 1/3 of the way back in my first hell ride, and
everyone decided to blow a red despite plenty of calls of "stopping!",
and only about 30 riders stopped at the back. Lama was in that group,
so he had to timetrial all the way.

Oliver's Hill wasn't so bad. Some of the rolling gentle hills after
it though caused some pain, and I did drop off 10m off the back a
couple of times, but caught back on, arriving back in black rock with
a decent speed for the last 10km. The peleton split up into many
bunches, and we swamped other bunches, and it all became confused, and
I tried to chase down a fast bunch when I realised I had been left
behind in a slow bunch, but only got within about 30m of them before I
blew up and fell back down to 30km/h. It turned out the folks I
wanted to have coffee with were all just behind me anyway.

So why do I discover these Hawthorn morning teas 3 weeks before
heading interstate? And I wish I knew that I could survive in the
Hell ride earlier. Although next time I shouldn't wear the Amy's ride
jersey. Damn povo students who can't afford the fashion.

BR tomorrow if my legs let me get out of bed.

Why so men little agro men in convertables on Beach Road? One
smalldick was in front of us, in the right hand lane. We all arrived
in a left hand lane. He changed his mind, and decided he wanted to
turn left, so span his wheels and beeped and revved and got all agro
that he couldn't because there were all these commy cyclists on his
    road. Poor him.

They skip the teaching of "8" and "G" in the public schools as part of
the "No Child Leaves Behinded" program. Too spendy.

Well I was in a bunch of about 40. A semi backed straight into the
bunch from a side street. He didnt actually come to a stop at all.

Gimme convertibles anyday.. You just empty you bidon into them.

  3. Beat lama you did...! Now get outta this city, we don't wanna see you round these parts again! 😉

As Timc staid, 6kms before Frankston I was caught up the back and at a set of lights. In usual fashion, I took it upon myself to pull the 30 or so back up to the rest of the field. Only 5 wanted to help, and of those only one was giving it some real gas. There was muttering behind me about 'going into the red' or some [censored] while I was on the front - eat me - If I want to pull your sorry ass faster than you can hold on then welcome to dropsville.

We caught a few more riders at the Frankston lights. Into overdrive up Olivers, I put 100m into the rest of the flatlanders. I had to pull up and ask 2nd place for directions. He was happy to then sit on my wheel and yell directions for a few kms 🙂

Then alone - Took the directed right turn just after the bridge. In 15mins I'd gone from riding in a bunch of 150 to solo. Arh well. Wind back onto Olivers and ask a roadworker how far I was behind the bunch. Time check of 4mins. Hammer down again - only 50kms into the city I might have a chance 🙂

Aero as I could be I set about ripping into that 4mins. Anything ahead was a target and dealt with accordingly. I was able to drop anyone who tried to jump on 🙂 Great stats from the Polar - The 32kms from the top of Olivers back into the city were done at 39km/h average with no help.

All up a great ride - 133kms, some big/med/small bunch work, some hill work, lots of ITT, then some pain dished out on the boulie to cool down.

I didn't get stats on the ride itself, but looking at the clock at
various points, I worked out we must have done 41.6km/h avg over the
    hell ride itself.

    Avghr=150. What's yours? 🙂
(max only 181, despite the perceived effort at various points).

Delayed lunch time now... I might be slow tomorrow.

Of course one does. The other 99 out of a hundred get bitter.

    Was it 8:30?

Was it 68km long (a guess based on how far I think it was to get to
black rock in the first place)? Which puts it at 45.3km/h, not
    41.6km/h.

    Did you have readings?

  7. I have stats, but i have to upload them, and i cannot be screwed. I think the distance is around 60k..

I know my average after the ride down to Black Rock was 30.3, and once back into St Kilda it was 39.8...

    Certainly in the 40's

Now, some people in here are going to tell me off for giving you a big head, but that's f'ing awesome.

Saw you riding back to the city at Carrum, you were on your own and you had a bunch about 200m behind you. I was on my way down to Mt Eliza.

That would've been especially hard to maintain that speed from Moordialloc to the city as there was a headwind (when I got back there).

And that's exactly why he should have been racing the Bay2Bay today!

urgh ... I didn't do my homework ... didn't know how hilly that race
would be. A world of pain! (and a DNF, one lap on my own was enough!)
I heard you did pretty well though?
