I'm guessing it's just demographic info they are seeking to find the right
age group, location etc. to market the product. IMO it's no different than
ordering merchandise or info via the Net. I do it all the time and have
had no bad experiences except spam maybe. OTOH, I have a Yahoo email addy
I use for all this stuff and I never see their spam anyway. I've not
noticed an increase (in fact just the opposite) in junk snail mail. I
ordered my sample and I thank Margaret for the link 😉 I'm familiar with
Kashi and nab one of their products now and then. Especially if I'm on the
go and hungry.

I am still puzzled about why they need your "whole" birth date? Surely
just the year of birth would suffice if they are trying to gage the
different "age groups" of their consumers. I have ordered stuff on line
too (not that often, I have to admit) - but nowhere else have I been
asked to put in my full birth date.... a name and delivery address is a
given, but a birth date? I dunno. Oh well.... Maybe they will send you a
"happy birthday" greeting to the email address you supplied, or they
need to check your "sign" too - lemme know wontcha?? LOL

Hmmmm... Sometimes I've been asked for a full birthdate but it's usually
for something like filling out an alcohol or tobacco survey for coupons or
something. I can't think of any site, that I regularly buy from, that
requires my full birthdate.

Kathy, I guess I am too trusting and too gullible. I like Kashi
cereals, the ones I have bought are much less sweet than most from other
companies. I hope that they will also come out with some that have less
sodium.

Last year there was an offer from them for a snack bar or energy bar or
something. It came in due time and I was never approached with email or
bothered in any way by either Kashi or any other company.

As for the exact birthday, the year is obvious. They want to know how
old the consumers of their goods are. As for the "real" birth date, the
two times I was roped into giving it to other companies, I ended up
getting birthday cards (email) as well as small gifts by US Mail. One
was a New York Yankee refrigerator magnet, with the Yankee Logo, the
other was a special coupon for one free Starbuck's drink, either hot or
cold. I gave both of my gifts away. :o)

number, a misspelling of my name, and an email address that I use only
for spam producing activity.

Kashi is becoming quite popular, at least here in the US. They've got a line of
healthy cereals and snacks that, get this, taste GOOD. We regularly buy several of
their cereals and recently tried the granola-style bars.

Like I said before in this thread, if they wanna know how old you are -
just the year of your birth is enough, IMHO. A name plus complete birth
date is step 1 in identity theft. And as for "wasting money storing
individual information once they get their numbers sorted" - I think you
are wrong here. Every individual bit of information by itself is
worthless. All the little bits combined and correlated is worth a lot.
Also most of this data is no good to anyone unless it has a "bunch of
history" behind it so they can see a "trend", which in turn is used for
planning their marketing strategy in the future - that's basic Economics
101...
