The problem with this individual is that he will not recognize that
iron is essential, though a lot of Americans may have more than is
healthy. However, the iron has to react in order to be dangerous. On
the other hand, one does not have to have arachidonic acid in one's
cells, and this is the key difference between most "civilized" people
today, and their ancestors (a hundred years or so ago). For example:
QUOTE: ...These results strongly suggest that chemical stress induces
IL-6 synthesis in osteoblasts, and that the IL-6 synthesis is coupled
to the arachidonic acid cascade as well as the HSP27 induction by
arsenite. UNQUOTE.
When you see the word "inflammation," this almost always just means
you have arachidonic acid in your cells (instead of the natural Mead
acid) and there is a stressor that is releasing it from cells.

I'm sure he doesn't understand 90% of the articles he posts. He just
cruises around the Internet until he finds something about his nemesis
and obsession, iron.

That's wonderfully ironic. Substitute EFA for iron and you could be
talking about yourself.

Yes, you need the chemical stress first. The arachidonic acid cascade
is a perfectly normal signalling mechanism, not poison waiting to
attack.

Still getting that wrong I see.

Still not paying any attention to the abundant evidence, MattLB. If
you think you are correct, you are welcome to take me up on any number
of experimental offers I've made to you in the past, and we shall see
if the AA cascade is "normal," or if it results in lower mortality
rates. Science is based upon experiments that can be repeated with
the same results, but somewhere you seem to have lost sight of that
basic point.

If it's the same kind of "evidence" (and from what I've seen, it is)
that you use to defend the "creationist" notion that HIV doesn't cause
AIDS, I would say it's pretty much worthless.
In short, sir, you're full of [censored].

Aren't you?

I recently went to a talk by Prof. Salvador Moncada (whose lab
discovered the role of arachidonic acid in the vascular system) and
one of the discoveries he made was AA causes relaxation in arterial
smooth muscle cells, thereby decreasing the risk of hypertension and
therefore heart disease. This pathway is potentiated by aspirin, so is
one of the reasons aspirin is so good. You won't take this in because
it is an example of AA being positive, but he knows better than you
having actually worked on it.

I'm not sure where you get that idea. Surely you who are pushing your
"my diet cures all ills" solution are the one lacking in
reproducibility.
