I have 3 bikes - one is nominally my wife's but since she never rides it, I may practice my maintenance skills on it.

Anyway, I have a Giant Sedona ST - "The Hoss" - it's like hopping onto a Barca lounger both comfort and performance-wise

My roadie is a DBR Podium 1. I generally alternate between them for my commute.

My wife has a Schwinn something-or-other. Thinking of giving it an overhaul and new paint job.

Dunno what "how I ride" means; generally as hard as I can for as long as I can.

My goals are to basically get in better shape and become a better cyclist. Ideally I'll spend some serious time on the trainer this winter and maybe try some cat-5s next year.
Let's call this a re-introduction....

- moved about 100 mi N of Milwaukee, for various reasons - primarily a new job.

- same bikes

- I DID ride a coupla cat 5s and got my ass kicked (both were pretty fun, all things considered - well, maybe not fun WHILE riding them but in retrospect I loved it). However, 2 young kids took me off the program pretty seriously. Still in the 230s (after dropping down into the 210s for awhile) and itching to get back onto the bike in a fairly serious fashion this year.

Alrighty... new guy here. My close friends call me Switch (loooong story from my car racing days). Anyways I'm about 230ish (been a few weeks since I checked) and have recently startedriding to/from work. It started because my truck crapped out on me but I decided to make it more long term. I am going tomake it a year long ordeal. My goals are to get back in shape (I was 175 back in 2007 thanks to Marine Corp boot) save money ro pay off some debt, and have fun. I'm in Kansas City, Mo and ride a Lynx Extremist mountain bike I'm converting over to road (it was free and I prefer something with shocks anyways). I have put about $73 into it so far with new grip shifters (they were trash) lights, a helmet and a small "Accesory" bag. My commute is a mere 1.54 miles with a top speed of 39.4 mph on a downhill section. I still need yo buy spme decent road tires, trunk rack, and a kid trailer for my daughter. I'm hoping this biking helps me lose weight since it is a bit harder for me due to an ankle injury I had in the Marines. Anyways that's me and my setup. I hope to learn more about bikes while I'm here so I'll be around alot.

What are your goals?
To lose another 50-60lbs. Starting riding about 3 weeks ago and I ride every day and have been able to increase my distance and time everyday. Right now I can do about 8 miles. There is a local bike shop that have group rides and I am "training" for those. Most of their rides are not that long (15miles RT) but I want to make sure that I can handle them before I try one. I really enjoy riding more than just walking (either the treadmill or around the block). Another goal I have is to join a ride club in the near future so I can find more rides. We do have a lot of bike trails around here, just need to find a decent bike rack and then I will start riding those.

Hello, my name's Kit.

I'm currently in Denver CO, USA.

I'm 6'4" and 297lbs currently.

Welcome aboard Kit. Doesn't matter what kind of bike at all. Just keep doing what u r doing and you will be fine

Thanks for the warm welcome! Really enjoying it thus far and I'm so glad I'm not the only big guy on the road. I've had nothing put positive comments and feedback out on the roads so far and I'm already becoming far more confident! Thanks again!

Geez, I know we're all Clydes here, but these 6'3" guys who can legitimately be over 200 lbs and still "in shape" make me feel self-conscious. ;)

Who are you?
Stuart, 34. a tour guide in the most beautiful place on earth!

Where are you?
On the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands

How big are you?
Was 296lbs a couple of months ago and am now down to 268lbs

What do you ride?
I pick up my new (and first!) bike tonight - a Revolution Cuillin XC '11 from Edinburgh Bike Co-op

How do you ride?
I have been on an excercise bike a wee bit over last 4 weeks but will only start 'real' cycling after picking up my new bike tomorrow!

What are your goals?
Mainly to lose weight and get healthier and more active. To that end I have set myself a challenge of a sponsored charity biathlon event in September so I need to do a lot of hard work over the next 19 weeks to train up for it! I am hoping to find much advice and inspiration from the forums here.

Welcome Stuart and good luck on the weight loss and the biathalon traing. Join us over in the "community challenge thread" too. We can use the miles!

Trek 2.3

How do you ride?
Road, bike trails around DC. I used to ride a lot as part of a teen challenge cycling program. We took troubled teens out on rides, trained them from FEB to JUN, then took them on the cycle across MD tour, gave them a bike if they completed it. So I've done some 300+ mile tours, centuries (not metric), even a "double century" which we called "100 miles in 100 degree (F) weather" ... yeah, it sucked! I quit riding for a while due to arthritis, but am back in to it now.

What are your goals?
Get in shape, lose weight, try to build my muscles up which increases bone density. That's supposed to lessen the effects of arthritis... we'll see. Regardless, I've always loved cycling, so just riding again is my main goal.

What are your goals?

My goals are really simple. I haven't ridden in 25 years, and I'm getting back on the horse. I'm tired of being out of shape and I want to have fun with my girlfriend, who is the sweetest girl I've ever met. I've lost 25 pounds since I started dating her early this year, and she inspires me every day with what she can do. On the weekends, I want to be her ride buddy.

How big are you? I'm not going to post my weight in my first ever post. Besides it fluctuates a bit these days, usually within 10 lbs. I will say that over the last year or so I have dropped 100 lbs. Still over 200 lbs.

What do you ride? A very bottom of the line Specialized, but it's what I can afford.

How do you ride? Just getting back into it (slowly... I have knee injuries, and if today's ride was any indication, I may not be ready yet). But I ride gravel/dirt/asphalt trails, mostly, short rides around my neighborhood, longer ones on the American Tobacco Trail.

What are your goals? I'm not sure just yet. Like I said above, due to knee issues, I am trying to get back into it slowly. But every time I think my knees are good enough to go... they aren't. And I don't find this information out until they tell me well after the ride.

How big are you?
There is no hiding this one. I am 5' 11" and 500lbs

What do you ride?
Unfortunately, right now, I don't ride anything. I have only found one bike that I know of that would even hold my weight.

How do you ride?
See Above

What are your goals?
My goal is to lose half of my body weight through cycling. That's what brings me here. Because of my weight there aren't many bikes that I can ride except the one that I know of, its about $3,000.00.

You guys don't know me from Adam, and I know this probably isn't the place for this but I don't know where else to go. $3,000.00 is a lot of money that I do not have. I have shared this on my Facebook, but that only goes so far unless someone else shares it. I have started a GoFundMe fundraiser campaign called "Jason's Rally To Ride" where I am trying to earn enough money to get this bike. I have started to lose weight with out it; My heaviest weight was 519, however, cycling is really how I would like to go about reaching my goal of 250lbs.

When I do get the bike I am going to start a video log, so that I may be an inspiration to others, and pay it forward. Your support means the world to me. If you can donate, great! if not, please share! Either way it means everything to me.
