Is Lance Armstrong a real biker?

I do all of my food shopping with the bike and a large backpack. Since the
central fruit & veg market is in the city (about 5km away), it saves having
to pay for a high-rise park.

Why do I feed the trolls? Why?

Besides leading annual charity rides, occasional cross-training on an
MTB or cyclocross bike, and his racing, Lance rides several hours of
training per day for most of the year. When he's not on his bike
training, he's probably spending as much time as possible recovering,
plus his ridiculously complex schedule of corporate and charitable
obligations.

Lance almost certainly spends far more time on a bicycle than in a car;
a typical training day could see 7+ hours of cycling; he doesn't have
time to drive a car more than he rides a bike.

Armstrong is sponsored by Subaru, so it's a pretty good bet he has one
or two of their vehicles. If you watch the Lance Chronicles, his coach
and mechanic follow him around in a Subaru wagon (an Outback, I think).
It's a 6-cylinder. He has also been seen driving a Suburban in years
past.

It's pretty clear that Lance loves riding his bike more than almost
anyone in this newsgroup. He also puts more raw miles on his bike than
almost anyone in the world, bike couriers included.

on Harleys. Bicycling is better for you, you don't get hassled by the cops

and there is no way that I can avoid a car with 3 carts full of groceries.
Mostly I avoid driving by 'letting' my wife do the shopping, something
she prefers anyway.
I used to live around the corner from work, 1 block from McDonalds and
other fine eating establishments, and a grocery store was across a field
behind my abode. I still had a car since it was non-feasible to pick up
girls on a bike. Unless you guys are dating your bikes I would like to
hear a comeback for that.

I met, dated, got married with no car.
Lived long stretches car-less. Groceries AND laundry (no W/D avail) with no
car.
Recently, family of 6 - one car. I commuted by bike. Every day.

You seem to think the way you live is the only way anybody can live.

Most people live in the cities or suburbs. Most people can bike if they
choose to. It's easy to carry two bags of groceries on a bike with a rack;
it's easy to carry 50 pounds of groceries on a bike with a trailer.

It's been a long time since I dated; after 33 years of marriage my wife and
I have the house to ourselves again. But even when I was young I was never
interested in women who judged men by their cars.
