Of course not, toasting requires a radiant heat source.
You're not really 'frying' bacon in a microwave either, nor
are you 'baking' a potato in one.

Putting a bagel in the mike is going to turn it to rubber.
Special box or no special box. Special plate, holder,
device, thingie, or whatever.

Lots of people prolly sell stuff they claim will do it
right, but their thoughts may be clouded by something
called profit.

Now, if you buy really lousy bagels, like Lenders or the
junk from the WalMart or many bigger stores, you may not see
a difference. Garbage in - garbage out, right?

A toaster is the only way to go.

Have seen a type of 'foil' that is supposed to crisp pastry
in the microwave. That might work somewhat.

You are probably better off toasting the bagel over the gas
flame or electric element.

Make that Fresh Real Bagels, and I'll agree with you. I
think that this toasting thing got started because so few
people eat freshly baked goods. IME, bagels don't keep well.
Day-old is fine, but only if toasted. Fresh ones are great
any way you slice 'em.

microwaves cook food from the inside out...they cook bacon,
not toast it...sorry

Nope. Putting any bread into the microwave will first cause
it to soften and then dehydrate and ultimately or turn it
stale. Microwaves heat food by exciting the water or fat
molecules this "excitement" causes them to bash into each
other and thus create heat.

they don't cook food from the inside out. the microwaves
are scattered by a metal fan, and hit the food. the waves
excite the water molecules in the food, which makes them
heat up, therefore, cooking your food. the inside of a
large item cooked in a microwave is the last thing to warm
up, and is cooked by the radiant heat from the outer layers
of said object.
