Went out today to survey the damage at Pocahontas State Park near Richmond VA. It was very disheartening. I'd say 60 percent of the trail is intact but the rest lies under huge piles of trees. It looks like a B-52 made a bombing run over the park with huge holes in the forest laid flat and open to the sky. The park and the trails are closed. The trails are totally unrideable and will remain closed until we can get it cleared. It's going to take a long time to get the trails back in shape. I'm going to have to hang flagging tape on the entire 10 miles of trail just to be able to find it after the rest of the leaves fall. It's nearly obliterated with sticks and leaves now.
I'm sure the other trails in the area look about the same.

Hey you'll never pin this one on me!!! ;^) No. That's my daughters old Huffy. It's totally rigid. Hardtail, rigid fork, seized hubs, bb and headset. Nothing on it moves!!! It's waiting for the next Huffy toss contest.

Yep. We have been cutting our way through Powhite; it's heavily damaged. As soon as we cut through one huge mass of trees we encounter another. It will be several weeks before that place will be rideable again - but it definitely will be. The reports from the downtown loop are also quite bad; "heavy logging equipment" will be necessary to restore those trails.
If there is is a bright side (other than it's literally much brigher since there are far fewer trees to block the sunlight), we will have ample opportunity to make some interesting riding challenges.
I'm sure the other trails in the area look about the same.

Good to hear from you! I guess everyone is taking care of their 'own' trails. I think we're going to have a big day at Pocahontas this Saturday. It could be months for us to get it open again.
