  1. ....perhaps it should be. Rec.food.recipes has a posting for stir-fried camel
and another for grilled bear. Gawd, the very thought of it makes my skin
    crawl. UGH!

cook said, "Worms, like raw mussels, you either don't try it - once
you've tried it, you'd be hooked!" eek :-p

  4. the bear might be quite tasty , they are generally vegetarian and fish

if i would like to try camel though , those things are smelly when they
    are alive lol .

I have tried kangaroo, ostrich steak and ostrich salami, snails with
garlic , they were like garlicy rubbery bits of beef, i wouldnt want to
to try things like alligator or snake eeeeeeeeewwwwww lol , i have

Must admit camel and bear are not on my "Ohhh-I'd-like-to-try-that"
    list either 😉
I'll stick to my chicken wings, thank you. We are going to have a braai
tonight and I felt like some snack-food - so we are gonna throw them
wings on the coals before the "main event" heh.- (Our weather is hot
here - ideal for cooking outside)...

    Bear is excellent... ;-d
I had it when I was around 14 or so.
Mom roasted some, and made stew out of the rest.

    Why?

I'm kinda adventurous when it comes to food... I'd try camel in a
heartbeat. I want to try alligator someday, just have not had the $$$.

In my lifetime, I've eaten rabbit, squirrel, porcupine, bear, froglegs,
racoon, (did not care for raccoon, too greasy), rattlesnake, snails,
Octopus, squid, and the usual wild game such as venison, quail, pigeon,
    javalina, elk, reindeer, and moose.

I'll try nearly anything once, but just draw the line at eating bugs
other than water crustaceans, Crawfish, crab and lobster.

The thought of eating insects is about the only thing that'll make me
    gag. ;-)

Of course, if you eat breakfast cereals, you are eating insects
    daily.....

A bear would sure bite you back if it had the chance.... <lol>

I left Ostrich, Emu and Rhea out of my previous list. Ostrich IMHO is
the best of the three. Tasted like the best Grade-A beef!

    Long story...

Bears in our area of California (one of the national forest areas) had
been pretty well wiped out. Too many people lived in that area.

The forest service decided to get cute and re-introduce them, or so they
    said.

They released 1 mother and 3 cubs (black bears)...
then promptly sold 300 bear hunting licenses for the area!

The mother bear was shot trying to kill someone's horse, one cub was
shot when it invaded a private residence, and the one we ate was shot by
the people that owned the property we lived on. Part of it was a
campground and the bear was raiding someone's camp site.

Rather than let it go to waste, my mom asked for it and processed it.

The 4th bear never was accounted for, but was never seen again.

But I told the whole story anyway. ;-)
It was kinda sad in a way...

Bear is actually pretty tasty when done right. You would've loved a PBS
thing that was on TV a few years back, showing people in Thailand (IIRC)
eating a type of street vendor food that's very popular there: Nice crispy
    cooked beetles.

I'd eat both if I ever got the chance, but then, I'll eat most things 🙂

    Yeah it was.
Just a money making scheme by the local fish and game...
    Felt sorry for the bears!

Ticked a LOT of the locals off too.
