I'm a 28 year old BMXer. Well, OK, I just started about 4
weeks ago.
Hey welcome to the fold! you might want to check out alt.bmx
theres always loads going on. Sometimes faulty newsreaders
only show posts from someone called 'gene' but thats your
faulty newsreader there.
Quoted message said:I've been watching other riders wipe out on TV. It seems
that they actually have "style" for crashing. For example,
I wiped out on Sunday, and I sprained my wrist. I have
video of the event, and it is obvious that I'm reaching
for the ground. My hands are probably the weakest part of
my body, so I wonder if some kind of roll-out would be
more effective? Does anyone practice crashing?
I used to pactice crashing a lot, I'm pretty proficient at
it but I prefer 'the bail'. You'll soon have plenty of
experience of both. I usually wear a helmet and gloves as
a minimum.

Usually before riding I check the ground for discarded
bricks, tree stumps etc and make a mental note to try to
avoid those if it all goes wrong. Crashes can be good,
they motivate (IMHO). If you can, get back up after a
crash and have another go. Don't go out on a crash or
you'll feel reluctant to try again next time. You're
already hurting right? can't hurt much more if you try
again and crash right? do you want that pain to be for
nothing? are you gonna let that jump beat you? GET BACK UP
THERE AND DO IT AGAIN!
sorry, got a bit carried away there.

Hmm, seems a pretty low-impact crash, but I guess slow ones
can tweak you as much as big slams.

Keep riding, it takes time to learn some basics but
its worth it.
