I am almost certain that when the competition was introduced, it was via a shot of the nice
carbon Trek bike with Mr Liggitt waxing lyrical about the chance to win one of "these fantastic
Trek bikes". It was most definitely *not* a Trek 1000 - and now, the competition is offering a
Trek 1000 ...

So what is going on???

Too right. Do you think we could do them under the trades descriptions act 🙂 I was almost tempted to ring the number when I first saw the piece (much as I hate "competitions" that are just profit making schemes), but a small dark voice at the back of my head kept telling me that a Trek 1000 is a much more basic bike than their pictures.

I did notice that they'd dropped the footage of a fancy carbon frame when they ran the competition last night. This must be deliberate as they are clearly just slotting the same piece into each programme for the competition.

about 1200 quid.

The trouble is that you're pretty unlikely to win in return for the quid or so you have to pay in
phone charges to enter... better off betting a quid on a accumulator at the bookies and buying a
really nice bike if you win :-)

I don't have a problem with TTTs per se but, as I said above, I do think that holding one at such an
early stage has already overly influenced the final standings. IIRC, after the TTT, the first eight
riders came from the USPS team. (What happened to the ninth, I wonder?)

After the TTT the nearest non-USPS rider to Armstrong was <Google
time> Joseba Beloki, and he was over 30 seconds behind Lance. OK, with
the lumpy bits to come 30 seconds is hardly a huge advantage but ...

I'd far prefer the Tour to be more of an individual event, as far as this is possible.

However, like you, Michael, I do enjoy watching the TTT; it is a wonderful spectacle.

However, I wasn't alive in 194? but I'm alive now and I say it'll be five for Mr A.

I wonder how the telephone, quiz-answering voice thing would cope it I give "B. 5" as an answer?
Maybe I'd win a carbon bike - or perhaps my proze would be only a lead pencil.
