  1. The Blackburn Cycling Club http://www.bbn.org.au is running a J-Cycle
program this summer. J-Cycle is an entry to cycle racing program
designed to get novices (not necessarily juniors) ready to race bikes.
    It's mainly, AFAIK, track riding.

For anyone that's interested, it'll be running on Saturday late
mornings (11am) for I think 1.5 hours at a time, and a couple of
    weeknights at METEC (Kilsyth).

The club is charging $55 to attend the course, which includes a j-cycle
licence (I only know that this licence lets you attend things like my
sprint skills sessions at 8am on Saturdays 🙂 As I understand it it is
not a race licence at all), 8 of the sessions, free use of the club's
track bikes (you unabrow wannabe fixie riders, here's your chance ...)
and some $20 worth of "stuff" (I don't know what the "stuff" is
either!). I'm also not 100% sure of who's coaching it - it's not me,
it may be John Nicholson (quiet in the peanut gallery!). John is a
former world track sprint champion and commonwealth games silver
medalist. It may also be Alan Barnes, who is not a former world track
sprint champion, but may have tickets to the 2006 Commonwealth games!

The first session is on Saturday the 29th of October (yep, this coming
    Saturday).
Anyone interested, please contact the club on 0407 308 755 or
    [email hidden]

Do you know when the last session is (don't know how long I will be
able to stick around in Melb for)? And should I learn how to race
crits before I bother with learning how to race sprints, etc?

  3. Yes, but I'm dashing out the door to get to a client meeting - will try
and remember to post the details when I get back

Go to the beginners sessions. You'll learn to be smoother and more predictable on a bike, plus you'll get used to close contact and sitting on the wheel properly, both of which will help when you decide to race crits.

agreed. I'm sure my handling improved after riding fixed (albeit commuting). It did however teach me to pedal thru corners! Not a good thing to do in the last few corners at Glenvale crits
    🙄

Tim, send me an email and I'll forward the PDF to you.
