    Well, I am looking for my first road bike. I am looking at Jamis, because I can get a good deal on them. I would like to do some road racing, and criteriums with them.
    The 2 that I am looking at are the Jamis Ventura Comp, and the Jamis Ventura Sport.

    They both have the same geometry. I am wondering which would be a better deal. I also noticed, the Ventura Comp says it comes with Shimano R500 wheels, however, in the picture they are clearly Shimano R550s.

    Which would be a better deal in the long run?

    I know there are all kinds of these posts, but they both have the same geometry, and I do not have the ability to ride either, so I thought I would ask all your opinions.

    The comp looks like a better bike. Triple butted tubing as opposed to double, and better components, not to mention the carbon stays. I guess the real question is, is the price difference worth the differences in the bikes. Without knowing the price difference, it's tough to offer advice.

    I believe the price difference is about 300 dollars.

    IMO it's worth the $300 for the Comp.

    1) 105 levers and rear detailleur
    2) Better frame (w/ carbon stays)
    3) Better wheels

    The wheels are a gut feeling to me. I think there's some company out there making cheap, crappy wheels, and selling them to places like Performance and Supergo, for them to put their name on. The wheels on the Ventura Sport look suspiciously like these same wheels. They're called "Formula XR5", which I've never heard of. Also, notice the front hub on the Sport in the full-size pic.

    Now check out the hub on the cheapy Perf/supergo wheels.

    They look identical. I know a few people (including myself) who bought and later returned a pair of these because they were [censored].

    I'd advise you to go for the Comp. Plus it's lighter to boot.

    How much do pedals weigh? I am just curious if that is a major cause in the weight difference (or at least .75-1lb of it). Also, am I wrong or are the wheels on the Comp the R550s?

    Pedals can weigh anything from 100g (M2 Racer) to 300-ish grams for a look.

    Not sure about those wheels.

    Look at the spokes and the spokes and spoke nipple placement.
