Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2011

The Jayco Bay Cycling Classic is a road cycling race held in and around Port Phillip Bay in Victoria, Australia. This years classic consists of both a Professional men's and women's and mens support races over four stages. Many world class riders have previously ridden in the "Bay Classic Series" including Graeme Brown, Robbie McEwen, Mark Renshaw, Baden Cooke and Chris Sutton. Event Website: www.jaycobayclassic.com.au How it works Stage Winner First past the post for each individual stage. Points of 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 will be given each day. The Overall winner of the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic will be the rider with the most points at the finish of the final day. Teams Classification Based on collective points of first three riders per team each day. Sprint Champion Collective points for the intermediate sprints held each day 3, 2, 1. This is a separate race inside the race and does not count for the overall classification. Graeme Brown is flying "under the radar" before cycling's Bay Classic criterium series, a term not often associated with the rider at this event. The two-time Olympic gold medallist will be in talent-packed field for the 22nd Jayco series, which starts on Sunday afternoon in Geelong. I doubt it, it's pretty small in the scheme of things, its only televised in Australia. Hopefully there will be some coverage on youtube soon enough.

Matthews outsprinted Simon Gerrans to win the Portarlington leg of the series and take over the leader's yellow jersey from Matthew Goss heading into tonight's crucial third stage at Geelong's Eastern Beach. The other no doubt was Bernie Sulzberger. It was a case of blood being thicker than water for Henderson, the hard-charging Kiwi from Team Sky, who came desperately short in a sprint with Sulzberger, who benefited from his younger brother, Wes, working hard in the four-man breakaway for most of the race.
