  1. About a month ago, I decided to start using the bike to commute to
work. Well all was going fine until I heard "pssssst" coming from
behind me and I found myself walking the rest of the way pushing the
    bike.

Well after fixing it and getting home, my mother in law came to stay
for a bit, and seeing as she was sleeping in the room the bikes are
kept in , cycling to work was a no-no for a bit.

Now she's gone again, I decided to cycle into work again, and yup,
    you've guessed it, another flat.

Is someone trying to tell me something ? I go rnning at lunchtime
along the canal, but I'm worried that with my luck the way it is, I
    might fall in.

Yeah, telling you to get some new tyres. I do six miles a day on my
road bike shod with Speciallised Armadillos and I honestly can't
remember when I last had a puncture.

Or that the puncture was caused by something on the rim or sticking
through the tyre and its still there.

or just carry a spare inner tube and fix the punctured tube later.

If whatever punctured the tube in the first place is still there a spare
inner will puncture as well. Usually with a puncture there is a cause
and until you find and remove it, replacing the tube will just lead to
    the new tube being punctured.

These things go in cycles (groan) One year I did over 3000 miles
without a puncture. Another year I averaged more than a puncture a
week for the first three months. Both times with new rubber and yes
the punctures did p*ss me off.
