As usual there will be an almost daily report thanks to mobile phone

very sad techie geekie stuff.

I think i may have already made a big mistake in going north to south.
But hey, it's more practical for getting home afterwatds,and I'll be
in Birmingham around my mum's birthday.

Pros: you're stronger for the nightmare that is Devon and Cornwall
(unless you stick to the A30, which is flat or rolling, but suicidal).
Easier to get back from Penzance in the evening.

Cons: you could have a headwind for the whole trip.

Head down the east coast then.. With a careful bit of route planning you can
cross some of the highest passes in UK (glen shee or cairn o' mount). Then
you can keep to the East all the way down till you really need to move
across.

I'd agree that Swindon isn't on any sensible route, from anywhere..

[censored]. Last year I did it in the opposite direction and my luggage
weighed about 10kg. Obviously you'll be travelling in a different style/
accomodation/ timescale etc. ......but, I think you've definitely made one
very good decision - you'll need to be nice and fit before you hit Cornwall
with 37kg. on your bike!
