I had some time off work, and used about half of it to visit my folks.
The other half I used riding around here and it was fun. Got some saddle time in in including a five days in a row streak. I got my Epic out a couple of times but noticed my rear wheel feeling weird and it seemed to be getting less and less round. I thought it was just way out of true and made it home. Closer inspection revealed a bit of a structural issue.

I replaced it with a new one built around a XT hub.

Looks like the problem on those DT hubs a few years back that were produced for Cannondale, but you don't ride a 'dale.
Interesting. It's a Magura hub that they tell me was really a re-badged DT, so maybe it was the same thing. I got three years out of it and rode it pretty hard, especially for light race race stuff. I also didn't pay a lot so I feel like I got my money's worth out if it. I'm just glad I got back home!

OE hub? Specialized had a problem with some OE hubs (particularly, not exclusively, on the SX's).
Seems that the threading for the freehub body extends one or two thread too deep into the hub shell.
Looks like a very similar failure.

Track down Taylor and tell him you want a new wheel.
Not OE. I got in on a special deal for that wheelset that was some shop employee deal (the wife works at a shop). They were some kind of special one time race stock or something. I forget what all the details were, but it was a screamin' package deal on the wheels and a set of Magura Marta SL brakes. I feel like I got my money's worth and already bought a new hand built wheel from my LBS. All water under the bridge now, but I thought I'd share the gory failure photos. I've also hucked this bike a bit, so I can't say I'm all that shocked.

My latest JRA was popping spokes on the SLF on the way to the taqueria the other night. It's hell trying to find 305mm spokes at any LBS out here. Maybe if I lived closer to a place like Harris. 27ers are too magical for the posuers out here...
