K i got a few questions, i'm jst starting to get serious in the sport of mountain biking i've had my fun messing around on low budget bikes and i would like to invest in somthing more durable and reliable. I was reading up on Kona and some people were saying there's nothing but problems with Konas and others were saying its one of the best bikes they've ever had. I was on a local shop website www.woodcockcycle.com and i was looking at some of the hard tail Kona's in the price range of about $1000-$1500 i wouldn't be doing anything too extreme with it maybe a little jumping and trial riding as well as some long distance riding but i'm not sure about what size of bike i would need or what to really look for in a bike. I'm about 6 feet tall and 140 lbs. Any help would be very much appreciated
haha...for 1000 bucks you can buy a full suspension kona...unless that thing has XT componets there ripping u off

Did u check out the website? cuz honestly i have no idea what kind of components it has if u could let me know if the price on the bike is too high that would be great, cuz i'd like a good quality bike but i also don't want to be ripped off. thx for the reply

If it's a hardtail you probably are getting XT. Have your bike shop size you up properly. One nice thing about hardtails is you get a lot better components for the money. For trail riding and long distance stuff off road you'll probably appreciate the efficiency of a hardtail over full suspension. I have a Trek 4600 that came with SRAM X-7 and I ride it all over. At your price range you should be able to get a much lighter ride.

Yea . . rite now i have a cheap full suspension bike and a friend of mine says that unless you put out the money for a good full suspension mountain bike then that back shock will be taking away from the power you put out, i'm not sure if its true. I think i'm might go with the Kona Roast. Not sure if i'm sayin this rite but the specifications say its a Kona Clump 7005 aluminum marzocchi bomber dirt jumper 3 100 mm with hydraulic brakes goes for about 1,339.99. thnx for the reply Kyle
that roast is nice...but the componets *deore, LX* arnt the best componets...infact there some of the worst, i have some deore and there great for a year but after some real hard landings and falls they kinda go to [censored]...and i duno much about the price on the bike...because i havent lookd in to the roast before...but it looks a little exspencive for a hardtail to me wen the only great things on it are the disc, *and of course the well known fork* but if i were you i would look at sumn cheaper because for a hardtail 1000+ is ALOT of money when it doesnt come with some topnotch, or close to top notch componets...*the deraileurs, crank, shifters, ect.* so yeah...and if your looking for a bike with a good fork then buy a bike with a 1.5 steerer and good componets and ill sell you my fork *the manitou in my siggy* for 220...brand new....just talk to your bike shop...and post back on what they say about a good hardtail with 1.5 steerer
Did check out Olympia Cycle and Ski on St. Marys? The owner Brian is a great guy, I bought my Gary Fisher Advance from him 4 years ago, always gives me very good prices.

I talked to the bike shop and he asked me what i would use my bike for so i told sort of half and half between cross country and dirt jumping. He said that it is hard to find a sort of "in-between" bike like that but he ended up showing me a specialized rockhopper pro disc. Details say its a "stronger all mountain frame with forged BB yoke/shell, ISCG mounts, and forged and externally machined head tube - marzocchi drop off comp 130mm fork with magnesium lowers 32mm alloy stanchoins, 2-ring truativ blaze cranks with poly bash guard - Truativ XR 3D forged alloy stem and 31.8 45mm riser bars - Sun SingleTrack alloy rims. thats about it, too bad i didn't read your post b4 i went cuz i would have asked him about that 1.5 steerer. I'm goin back next week to pick out which one i want and test ride a few. I'll ask them then and let you know the story, thnks for all the help

Haven't gone there yet but thats where my friend got his trek. Maybe next week when i go out i'll stop by and see if there is anything that i like. So where around Winnipeg do you ride and what kind of riding do u do?
sure there OK but when you pay 1000+ bucks for a hard tail then you should see more xt componets, my bike i got for 400 bucks, it has deore and LX componets and its a brand name *Schwinn* so i dont see why you should pay 600 bucks more to get a lesser bike *if you ask me that shop is asking the full MSRP...i suggest you go to a shop with out a website...because they offer the best deals since they are trying to compete with the online stores*
