  1. So who's racing/spectating this weekend? My prediction for Fathers Day
is that there will be less riding but more spectating (families have to
support Dad). My prediction for my daughter is that I will win
comfortably on a strong break away established early in the race. The
break away will occur on the back straight where no one will see it.
Those in the pack may confuse said breakaway with being dropped but I'm
sure I can explain it properly to my daughter and to GPLama for my
prizewinning DVD (he'll be [censored] himself about B-Grade and won't be
    able to follow D Grade).

B grade isnt a worry.. it is the A graders they throw into the mix to make
    up the numbers during winter..

I assume breakfast in bed will be dietry tailored just to suit
    winning?

    Excellent plan.

I'm in the mood to embarrass myself so I shall be there....in C-grade. Aiming to not get dropped after 10 mins this time 🙄

Blackburns racing has been cancelled so may be a few more because of this?

I am not afraid of heights, nor am I scared of falling. Height and

  9. Well it was a successful day for aus.bicycle with places in all grades.
I was aiming to hold on to D grade for 10 mins but managed to make 15
mins so I was happy with that. And I rode to plan making sure I was up
near the front at the hairpin, hanging on as best I could up the climb,
and then using my ballast to best effect on the downhill. The downhill
surprised me as everyone seemed to be coasting down there, so I was able
to catch up each lap without too much effort. I got dropped when a gap
opened down the back straight and the others were able to catch back up
on the uphill. Oh well, was happy enough with that considering my
priority at the moment is running. Hopefully by the time the summer
crits arrive I will be close to hanging on all race.

yeah, you were lookin good and then was really surprised to see us lap you!

The pace today was 'rather' slow. dunno any averages but Im guessin very low 30's at best.
There was no real surge in the middle as Cgrade was only 3 people and thus only came past in the first few minutes; usually theira rrival halfway thru precipitates the Dgrade split-surge which had dropped me alst time.
I mised the 3-to-go call and was pleasantly surprised to see the '2' card being held up.
One of the young lads that came out on a BR (camberwell high students of your mate, DaveB?) took off but was left to dangle. Graeme(?) first timer older-strongish took after him but nobody saw them as a huge threat and we were all in cruise control. It was obviously gonna come down to the final hairpin and climb to the line.
Thankfully no dumbarse-desperate moves going into the final hairpin.
I was sitting at about 7-8th(?) wheel, picked up a couple of places in the first 10m coming out of the corner,
(damn those steel forks are [censored] at cornering and the tourer is comfy but sloppy-as when standing like spaghetti!) picked up a couple more before the slow bend and was gaining on the remaining 3. 3 of us were rapidly gaining on Graeme(?) who had obviously got to the corner first and gone hard early, We went past him like he was standing still(!) (later admitted he almost had a 'meeting' with the curb), gaining on the other 2 but ran out of road and crossed for third!!! Wooooooooooooooot 😄😄😄

My first place at Kew ever! and far better than i was hoping for before starting. I had slept too much on my shoulder and it was really hanging by the end (funnily enuff everything BUT sprinting hurts 🙄 ) and was just hoping to hang on for 20min

AND apparently i was accused of being an "Under17" by Cam when it came time for prize money to be distributed. Yet again the Lama hasnt been briefed that this racing stuff is meant to involve occasionally handing over cash WITHOUT getting some at the end!!!

The usual "if only's" to follow (bahahahahah)
Moved up before that last corner
Had a STIFFER BIKE (now that WOULD have made a difference as i was only about 2-3m off first)

a big thankyou to all for keeping the pace so pedestrian 😄

Awesome one the 3rd placing.. I must have been to preoccupied with 'did that
really just happen?' at the end of B to register this..

    My race:

Another step up.. B grade today.. a few familiar faces and some quadzilla
guy (damn he was huge).. rolling around.. I kept at the back for a few laps
to scope out the pace.. 'zilla was making a few quick moves off the front,
we all let him go and always got him back within a lap.. round and round and
round, didn't do any work off the front for the first 20mins. Pace was up
only a little on C grade, the strong surges is what makes the difference.
An attack going every few laps.. all caught.. Found myself working on the
front again, with most people willing to take a turn it was all good. Best
part of this group was they were all experienced rider/racers.. nobody
messing up the corner or disrupting the group with dodgy turns or swerves..

Round and round, round and round.. 3 laps to go.. I'm on the front.. argh..
2 laps.. three guys take off.. I'm the only one chasing them down.. grab
their wheel by the hairpin.. last lap.. waiting for the surge.. I was second
wheel down the back straight, no bold moves by others into the hairpin.. I
start winding up and get past the guy in front 10m past the corner, still
feeling good I keep cranking up over the line for first place.. w00t... I
    guess I'm now a B grader - w00t again.

Other thoughts: The lower numbers with the winter crits allow easy chase
down of breaks and gives good opportunity for getting a decent position into
the hairpin. Larger numbers in summer will surly involve more luck than
    strength..

All up, a good days racin'!

    cheers,
    GPL

    A and B were combined.

And Ess took out 3rd in C-grade. Way to go Ess 😉

teehee. a thoroughly deserved placing (hey he was only about 10-20m off 1st)

Yeah but did you see the gap I had on 4th 😄

Tactically I stuffed that last lap up, they forced me to lead them around on the final pass, and in the end I just played cat and mouse for too long. In hindsight I should have jumped sooner, not that it would have really mattered as they had me covered anyways.

My av was 34.4 (stopped it after a roll around lap), so if it was a normal C-grade I would have been in trouble.

Awesome stuff FD and GPL, and good effort by Dave.

  16. Inspiring stuff.
......Summer is coming you say? 😎

No one forces you to lead.. slow down or roll off.. but be ready for the attack going when you do it and tack on QUICK!

I wanna race! I wanna race! I wanna race! I wanna race!
Spose I should check out the pommie racing scene.. or Scotland.. damn.. I don't even know where I'll be living!
Anyone have an easy, well-paying job for me over there? Perhaps one that involves flying between summers? 😄 I don't ask for much do I?

    Nice work a.b'ers!
