Kogswell Hubs source?

I did a search and it's probably nada. The Kogswell site is a mess as
usual. You can try Ebay--but as these things get hyped up, you'll
probably pay too much.

I've been banging around the past year on Formula cart hubs that
everybody and their dog either rides or silk screens and resells.
Classic look, super smooth, and cheap.

You can get them low or high flange or rebranded as IRO and so on.
Even Nashbar's got some fixie hubs now--they look pretty nice. About
$70 for a set or less if you catch a sale.

yeah - that's what I was afraid of. I like the 135 spacing on the
Kogswell. I have a trailer adapter I'll probably attach as well, so
I'll need as long an axel as I can get. If I go with the 130, then
I'll need to flex the frame (not a big deal) but I'd prefer to go
135. The other option is Surly:

The On-One 135mm double fixed rear is simply a black Kogswell, made in the
same Taiwanese factory (Kun Teng). The same hub shell has been around for
some time in several variations - the first one I owned was sold as a DMR
Revolver.

I've been running one for a few years now - it's fine. At its current price,

Now you're just toying with my emotions. I wanted the On-One first,
but the US importer is ZedSport and they only do frames. On-One hasn't
replied to any emails in 2 weeks so I gave up on them. I found the
Surly's on eBay from a guy just down in Portland, so I think I'm going
to just go that route.

Yep.

The Van Dessel 135mm hubs were also KT MR-12s.

Not a bad hub. Except that the lockrings were so big that they got in
the
way of using a freewheel - the freewheels spun on, but the lockrings
impeded the use of a freewheel remover. Not being able to remove the
freewheel was a bad thing.

These days we use 135mm MTB hubs with disc brake mounts. We use
spacers and cogs on the -body- side for freewheeling and we have some
16 and 18 tooth cogs that we've made that bolt on to the disc mounts
in case we want to go fixed gear.

Ah, you mean the axle locknut/endcap. I hadn't encountered that problem: I
use mine fixed/fixed.

Was that your design, or did it originate with KT? The DMR Revolver used
much lighter pressed-on aluminium endcaps with a knurled steel face to grip
the dropout.

Are you selling these sprockets? I didn't see any mention on the Kogswell
site.

Good for DMR. That needed to be fixed.

Van Dessel and One On were both using that hub when we started talking
to KT about it. We got KT to make it fixed/fixed. And they did a
nice job
with the washered bolts; VD and OO had both been using quick releases.

It's a very good hub. It's in the "press fit cartridge" class. KT
does a good
job with the tolerances compared to say Formula. There's very little
play in
the bearings and if you use a good quality cartridge, which we did,
they
work well for a long time.

But as nice as they are, I'm back to using loose ball, freehubs
myself.
In particular the disc brake rears. The disc brake mount placement
forces the vendors to push the port side flange in board which makes
the flange more symmetric. And it works well as a mount for a fixed
gear cog.

And I like loose ball hubs because I know how to adjust bearings and
the it's very easy to replace the freehub body with the loose ball
design. That and I like the three bearing design of freehubs.

Shimano did a good thing when they designed the freehub.

We have them in stock at the moment. And like most Kogswell
stuff, there's no point to advertising it. We can't keep up with
demand as it is so we'd rather just sell stuff as it is available and
not tease people or deal with back-order noise.

I think the Revolver was around before the birth of Kogswell.
