Can you identify why you "don't want to completely go on Atkins"? Dr
Atkins actually created a quite good and healthy program that has
allowed many people to do remarkably well. While many people like to
include Atkins bars and shakes, the plan actually calls for a healthy
mixture of protein foods, fats and non-starchy or sugary vegetables
and salads. A lot of us, me included, have had success without ever
touching an Atkins-branded product except the book.
I suggest, if you haven't already done so, READ the Atkins book. Not
a 2-page Women's Magazine overview. Not your best friend's cousin's
brother-in-law's precis of it but Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution.
Paperbacks are readily available in many bookstores, or even at the
local library. If you like, there are other plans out there that are
LC which don't have the Atkins name on them. Try Protein Power by Drs
Michael and Mary Dan Eades. Try the South Beach diet, which claims
not to be LC but ends up that way anyway. Dana Carpender's How I Gave
Up My Low-Fat Diet (and lost 40 pounds) gives an excellent overview of
many LC plans out there - I highly recommend this one if you can only
afford one book.
Reading the basics from the source(s) is one of the best tools you can
give yourself in your LC way of life.
Best of luck.
