Le Tour Question

Good to hear of your new interest, but please take cfsmtb's advice and
do some research on the Web first. Once you've found out the basics off
your own bat, people will be more inclined to answer any specific
questions you may have, especially in rec.bicycles.racing, which is
probably a more appropriate NG than this one for this type of question.
Otherwise you will either be (a) ignored (because people won't be
bothered writing pages and pages in answer to wide-open questions) or
(b) flamed as a troll (i.e they won't think the question is genuine).

I think the best way to learn about the tour is to watch it.
See if any cycling buddies have previous tours on VHS?

Actually thinking about it hippy, you're right. RBR is full of people who:
- think the world is made up of just one hemisphere (e.g. it's always
summer in July)
- flame newbies for being newbies (like the flamers were born knowing
everything), esp. at TdF time
- use abuse as a first resort, not a last one
- go way OT at the drop of a hat
- have cliquey conversations to prove their "in-ness"
- post smutty links (like the "goat sex" one) and make off-colour
remarks about camels (my swipe at your schoolgirl fetish was in a
totally different vein)
- give bike racers a bad image

Sadly, Google is your best bet (not knocking Google, just that there
should be a decent NG about racing).
