Also got three bicycle lifts at £3.99 each, which should help ease Vernon's
bad back when he's lifting bikes down off the garage roof beam fixings he's
currently using...

what are the mitts like? was going to nip up to the one in Cricklewood
at lunch time before the ebay b'stards get it all.

Basic but serviceable. I find them entirely fine for the pootling I do.

Just got back from my regular LIDL
Got some shoes too -- good value. and some socks to keep me going for
another year. The floor pumps looked good value too! I have one already.

There was sleet/snow in the rain on my way back -- head wind of course --
but I am firmly in shorts now till next winter. Just a vestige of last years
tan means I have not totally white pins!

Doing trial packings and runs with my trailer now so at by the time I leave
on 20 May I should have:-
a. Got the loading balance right.
b. Reduced the "stuff" I am taking to a minimum.
c. Knocked a couple kgs off my waist line.
d. Rehardened my bum!

They seem very good. Nicely padded and textured palm with an extra gel
doobrey for the heel of your hand. The back is a light weight
breathable fabric with an absorbent terry thumb, Scothlite piping and
velcro closure. At £1.99 you really can't grumble.

There was lots of really good value stuff, much of which found it's
way into my trolley. It's well worth a visit, as long as you're quick
about it.

I did feel smugly superior though amongst the usual "pensioners at a
jumble sale" type scrum as the doors were opened, because I was the
only bloody one who'd arrived by bike.

I bought:

The Bar Ends - For 2.99 I'm willing to experiment to see if I like these.
I started fitting them a few minutes ago but then it began to rain.

The mini pump. The travel of the shaft is quite short but it is double
action. This fits into last years Aldi frame bag. Having a quick go, I was
able to quite easily get my front tire back up to 40psi (my prefered road
pressure).

I also bought the bar bag. This is perhaps not as good as last year's. It
uses straps whereas the old one used a clip system. Apart from
convenience, the advantage of this was that the part which screws onto the
handle bars added a bit of support to the bag, once it was clipped on.
This bag hangs freely. I think it is designed for a bike on which the
handbars are directly over the steerer tube. The handle bars on my
mountain bike stick out infront of the bike.

I also got the brake pads for 1.99 for 4. It will be interesting to see
what they are like...

Surprisingly, there were some of the last sale's rear pannier bags left.

I'm just back from my first ever visit to Lidl - Musselburgh - very
impressed with bike stuff (and the fresh food).

I used to do the same when I went to the Aldi in Musselburgh. Given that
itmeant a 10 mile commute to work (As apposed to a 2 mile one) and that
the shop opened at 9 and I had to be in work for 9:30. I felt that I could
be exceptionally smug.

bah! the one thing I went up there for; none left at all (also none
left in the one my brother went to) even though the price tag was
there. Perhaps they never had any. Still, not to be outdone got the
track pump bar ends tool bag socks and change from £11 ;-)

That track pump looked astonishing value. I almost bought one myself
despite already owning a Silca model (buying a spare track pump would
be too tragic even for me).

Bought some bar ends though. Have just fitted them in a central
position on the hack, sort of mini aerobars. Groovy.

I'm delighted they had the ortleib style panniers back again so soon
because I missed them a couple of weeks ago. Bagged a pair this time
around and have already taken one of them shopping. It coped admirably
with a big pile of groceries and with plenty more room to spare. I'm
very impressed. My only concern is that the fitting hooks don't look
as sturdy as they might, but perhaps they'll be fine.

just took a big gamlble (at the risk of not getting home tonght) and
let one of the tyres right down; it pumps it up to about 90 psi but
won't put any more into the tyre. Maybe I'll try swapping the adaptor
over with my Argos one (which works much better but has one of those
annoying brass adaptors for Presta valves) and keep it at work.

Got myself a pair. Look OK.

Most impressed with the inner tubes piled high -- all with Woods/Dunlop
valves. Ho-hum. Left them there.

Track pumps, OTOH, looked superb value.

Got an OK saddle for a fiver -- so a fair raid.

It's a BOB Yak. Got it early December 2 days before my last velo was
hijacked, ...... then with everything else this winter.......
So now it hangs on the back whenever I take VP2 out for a ride, or shopping,
or just visiting my 99 year old Dad.
I definitely like it but I reserve my assessment until after June 26th when
I get back home. Then, with 2000 kms under its wheel, I 'll know what's
wrong with it!

I haven't yet decided on loading strategy yet -- with my four panniers
everything lived in its particular place and I could nearly pack and load up
blindfold -- but as always after a couple of days actually on tour it will
all slot into place I am sure. It is just being faced with a much bigger
"dry sack" and deciding how to compartmentalise it all. As usual the last
night at home before departure will see my bar bag crammed with last minute
things -- it always is!

I always like to take a photo of my tent at the first campsite and it is
always a tip! But days two et seq are always much better.

So its a wait and see!
