Hi! I have coronary artery disease. I had double by-pass
surgery ten years ago. I had two stents put in other
arteries two years ago. I have taken Lipitor for several
years. I have blood tests every three months and never have
any signs of side-effects from the Lipitor. I do, however,
occassionally get muscle soreness. Several months ago my
cardiologist was going to have me try Crestor rather than
Lipitor. I know a recent study suggested that Crestor can be
dangerous. Does anyone use Crestor without the muscle side-
effects that they had from Lipitor.

I've been on Crestor a month and have no side effects at all
(as far as I know anyways).I was on Lipitor for a year 2 years ago and was off all
statins for a year before starting on Crestor. The study you may be referring to is pretty much old news.
At the time of seeking to get FDA approval for Crestor (it's
on the north american market less than a year) there was
some eveidence of muscle damage at the highest dose of 80mg.
The FDA declined to grant US approval for the 80 mg dose but
granted it for 40 20 10 and 5 mg doses. If the pharm company conducts more thorough testing at
higher doseages The FDA may even approve 80mg.It seems as though Crestor is the most potent statin
curently available on the marker with the fewest side
effects, especially at the lower doseages, which is what
most people require anyways since Crestor seems very
effective at lowerong LDL and raising HDL.My own famiily doctor is taking Crestor (20mg) himself.
Don't be surprised if you get flooded with a ton of posts
condeming all statins. Look at the posting history and
previous posts of the authors, then decide who you want to
trust in this group. -
Hi Allen, I have been taking Lipitor for 6 months and have told my GP about
muscle soreness , but he wants me to stay on them a while longer as they are
quick acting in lowering cholestoral, I have 4 stents so i would be very
interested in what some of the group say about Crestor . Take Care Balsey.

also have muscle aches from Crestor.Servant to the humblest person in the universe,

Do you have an opinion for or against Crestor vs Lipitor?

I switched from Lipitor 10 mg to Crestor 5 mg and had
excellent blood studies with both (Chol 150, hdl 67). I
didn't have apparent side effects from either but I had been
unable to gain muscle or strengh from weight lifting which I
learned may be due to statins. Now I'm not on any statins
and my chol is 175 - cinnamon - 6 grams daily had lowered my
chol about 10% (initially off statins it had risen to 200).
My understanding is that you need only half the dose of
Crestor to equal a dose of Lipitor - but that 1/2 dose is
likely to cause the side effects equal to your dose of
Lipitor. In your shoes I would definitly continue statins -
what's a little muscle soreness compared to heart disease?
Tip - all doses of Crestor cost the same. Ask doc for higher
dose and use a pill splitter. I believe recent research
supports lower targets for chol for patients similar to you."Allen Herzfeld" <[email hidden]> wrote in

Crestor 10mg worked wonders for me. I have been taking
Crestor for about eight months now and have not observed any
untoward side effects. Nevertheless I am keeping a watch on
myself in view of all the dirt that has been dished out
about statins in general and Crestor in particular!Other statin (taken over several years), dieting and
exercise had all had insufficient results.Peter

Not here in USA either. I split 10 mgs. Drug literature says
5 mg Cresor = 10 mg LipitorGeorge <[email hidden]> wrote in message
