How many months? Stored indoors or outdoors, wet ot dry conditions? Might be that all you need is to wipe and lube the chain, or you might have to do a full tune-up lube. Oh,m and check the condition and inflation of your tires.

[left]it has been outside hanging on a rack. pretty dry, i live in west texas, although humidity has been high this summer. i have not used the bike in like 6-8 months. did put air in the tires today, although I did not ride it.

If its dry, then its probably dusty. You might want to give the chain a complete cleaning since it probably has grit in the bearing surfaces now. You also should probably clean and lube anything that does not have sealed bearings in them. 6 -8 months outdoors is a long time for a bike, wet or dry.

Here are 2 of the best known sites for help. Bicycling magazine also prints a good manual that can help you. It is about $20.00 and is available at most major book stores.

Good for you! I hate taking work away from bike shops, but hey, bike maintenance is not brain surgery. Why pay someone to do what you can do yourself? I actually enjoy tinkering with my bikes almost as much as riding them. I am addicted to it and now own a bicycle repair stand and a truing stand. I have also started building my own wheels. Its a good way to spend an evening.
