I wanted to do a nice big ride this weekend so I've been scoping out the
Ballona Creek Trail. Since this will be my first time riding it I'm a
little nervous because it sounds kind of tough and I want to make sure I
take the right bike and equipment.
Please only respond if you direct experience with Ballona Creek.
I've heard the eastern end is quite gnarly. Should I bring my 5" travel
trail bike or will my 3" travel XC bike suffice? I've got 2.4
motoraptors on my 5" bike but I was thinking about getting some bigger
tires. Any suggestions? Oh, yeah, I hear there is alot of debris on
the trail the further east one travels, should I get an extra derailer
hanger? I have one but I'm thinking I should have 3 or 4.
I also hear there's quite a bit of climbing involved so I was wondering
if I should get some extra bolt-on water bottle mounts? I have a 100 oz
Camelbak and two 26 oz water bottles already but, damn, it's been 85
degrees at Ballona Creek lately, and, boy, is that HOT!!!!! And what
tools should I put in my pack? So far I only have a phillips
screwdriver that I found in the parking lot at work.
And lastly, do I need a helmet for this ride?
TIA,
Greg
