Lug suppliers

With not that much effort a 74 degree headlug can easily be modified to
73 (or 72 or 71.5268) degrees. Do a bit of research here:

With not that much effort a 74 degree headlug can easily be modified to
73 (or 72 or 71.5268) degrees. Do a bit of research here:

Changing angles by up to a couple of degrees is quite easy, and
something you should really have a go at, because it's very rare that
the lugs available are the exact angles you'll need.

The basic idea is to bend it to the correct angle, then use a brass
drift and hammer to close the lug up around a slightly smaller diameter
tube, that way when you insert the frame tube, you'll have the right
sort of clearances.

As for the D shaped megatube, I've never heard of a lug for such a
thing. Your best bet would be to fabricate one yourself, using a piece
of tubing with 36mm ID fillet brazed or tigged to a piece of steel
formed around the megatube. That'd be quite a lot of work.

I imagine you'd find it a lot easier simply fillet brazing the
downtube.

This also would create a stronger joint, at least according to
the crowd that views lugs as heatsinks and stress risers. -- Jay
