I have this emergency.. Am in the middle of a recipe which calls for lemon / orange flavored jello.
I just realized that all I have at home is unflavored gelatin. I do have Knox unflavored gelatin,
assorted food colors and also pure orange extract.

Does anyone know what proportions I can use these in (andhow much water) to get 1 cup of orange
    flavored jello?

Looking forward to save an extra trip to the grocery store!!

    Thanks.

I fear you'll have to do a taste-test, if no one has your precise info in the next few

My experience is that half water and half juice makes a fairly good base for flavoured homemade
jellos. Now how much unflavoured gelatin you need to harden one cup of juice i have no idea as
different gelatins have different ratios. Your best try is to look on the package and find the ratio
    Knox recommends.

Obviously since Kraft owns both Knox and Jello they will not be telling any secrets.

I think this will help with proportions... you may do better adding an envelope of Knox to two cups

Probably too late now, but this is how I have done it, Of course, if you only have orange extract,
this won't help you at all.

    Jean B's Orange Gelatin

    1/2 c plus 1 2/3 c orange juice 2 Tbsp (2-plus envelopes) unflavored gelatin 1 1/2 c boiling water
2/3-3/4 c sugar dash of salt 2 Tbsp lemon juice 2 tsp orange zest (opt.)

Pour 1/2 c orange juice into large heatproof bowl. Sprinkle gelatin over top and let if soften for
ca 5 minutes. Don't stir. Add boiling water, sugar, and salt and stir til gelatin and sugar
dissolve. Cool to lukewarm, and then stir in remaining 1 2/3 c orange juice, lemon juice, and orange
zest. Pour into individual containers if desired-or just leave in bowl. Chill til set. Jean

  8. I guess i will just follow the plain gelatin recipe on the knox box. And will add a few drops of the
color.. few drops of the extract.. Shouldnt be too big a deal!

I am using this for a layer cake recipe.. the final layer will be topped with a thin layer of
whipped cream, topped with fruits and then topped with lightly set jello to cover all the fruits.

  9. That sounds good.. I guess I will take half a cup of strained orange juice and half a cup water..
Add enough gelatin (based on the pack's directions) and add some more color and extract if need be
    (After tasting ).

Will let you know how it goes. And will also stock up on some jello next time i go to Safeway.

    Thanks!!!!
