Manchester to Burnsall

I suspect that from Manchester you would first have to get to Leeds. I
am not familiar with buses but looking at the map I would have thought
there should be some sort of bus service from Ilkley to Burnsall and
possibly from Skipton as well. Both Ilkley and Skipton can be easily
reached by rail but not on the same line. If buses not available you
could always start your walk from Ilkley.

If you do opt for Leeds/Bradford the airport is located to the North
West of Leeds and depending on what the local buses are like it might be
better to stick to buses rather than trying to use rail to get to Ilkley
as the airport doesn't appear to have a rail link. Manchester airport is
to the South of Manchester and is as least as far from a rail station as
Leeds. (Unless either station has grown a rail link since my maps were
printed).

You can get the bus directly to Oxenholme from Sedburgh.

from Kendal and closer to Sedbergh.

You wouldn't. I couldn't connect to the server. What I thought was that
in the interim the thread would have been flooded with replys that
covered the situation adequately and I would be adding nothing extra but

Try www.transportdirect.info/ produces routes with train and bus and
walking!!!!!!. Leeds - Burnsall should be easy. But Sedbergh - Leeds could
be awkward - walk up to Garsdale or Dent Station (bus?) and then train to
leeds.
Sedbergh - Manchester Airport easy but Mcr to Burnsall start with train to
Leeds? or bus to Skipton?

Lots of other good info for this in other replies to the OP. A couple
of additional thoughts:

Leeds Bradford Airport (LBIA) is a very good bet if you can make it. It
is up on the Chevin (that's the name of a line of high ground or hills).
The Leeds-Ilkley Dales Way link into the start of the Dales Way at
Ilkley goes very close to the airport. You could almost walk from the
airport, onto the Leeds-Ilkley link, and walk into Ilkley.
Alternatively, you could get a taxi from Leeds-Bradford airport to the
start at Ikley which would take about 15 minutes.

If you look at:

you will see LBIA at the bottom of the map and at the top right hand
corner there are the red-diamond markers of the Long Distance Path which
if you scroll up and left will see that it is the Dales Way (shared at
some points with the Ebor Way; Ebor is the Latin name for York).

There are buses to Burnsall (but not often)

Another option is the Settle & Carlisle railway - which is a bit of a
tourist thing to do - and very scenic. With a bit of flexibility it
could be useful: it covers most of the whole length of the Dales Way
(but not closely). You can start the S&C in Leeds (but it's a long way
from LBIA to Leeds Station). The S&C stops at Ribblehead (where the
Dales Way goes), and Dent. If you go to the end of the DW (which you
seem not be to planning) you can get a train back from Windermere, down
to Carnforth and then use the Lancaster-Leeds line - which shares the
S&c at the southern end) to get back to wherever you want, if you
started by the S&C route. That's all a bit complicated, however. The
simpler solution - suggested by another poster - would be to get the S&C
from Dent: it's a about a half-day walk from Sedbergh to Dent Village
(and then an hour or so to Dent station - do not underestimate!). Also
there are some closures on the S&C during July for engineering works.

Manchester airport has a railway station of its own, with links to Manchester
Piccadilly and Crewe.
