People have been discussing Vegimite and marmite on a few mailing lists I subscribe to, so when I saw a jar at the local clearance center, I bought it. Other times I've tried it, it' has been nasty, but worked ok as a soup base so didn't go to waste.
This time, people had been taking about eating it spread thinly on hot buttered toast, so I tried it.
It's a little weird, but by the time I got through the second slice, I liked it.
Are there any other uses for it, besides as a toast topping?

A teaspoon full in a cup of hot water, well stirred, for a quick Beef Bouillon type soup drink
Goes well with thin slices of cheddar cheese on the toast as well.

I have only ever had the cheese cold (and the toast hot). But melting it maybe good.

I like it as a light spread inside a fried egg sandwich. A traditional use is Marmite Soldiers: spread Marmite on buttered toast, cut into 4 or 5 long strips, dip into a soft-boiled egg. It should work with poached or over-easy egg instead. Try Marmite on rye bread or rye crackers (Ryvita). Add hot water to the empty jar to remove the last tasty bits to make a cup of bouillon. Use it to flavor and/or color soups and stews.
