is to drop weight in 10 hours, focus on emptying your gut and
dehydrating yourself. Calories to burn fat? I don't think so. -

If anybody wants to know why people don't ask questions in this group

They finally cancelled it but it was a bureaucratic nightmare - the town
didn't close the fields last night so the soccer club had to send
someone to inspect each field individually, and they were hoping some
fields were playable so that they could move ours to another field, but
in the end, everything in town is closed for the day. The other team
had drive half an hour each way just because someone in my town couldn't
look out the window.<sigh>

are wusses. The reason for the closing have nothing to do with trying to protect the
players, only protecting the fields. When they're muddy past a certain
point, they get worse in a hurry if you play on them. Otherwise soccer
is played in all sorts of weather, and if the game had been on an
artificial surface, we would have played. The field condition thing is
a vicious circle - the areas already most trashed are those closest to
the goal, and they're the ones that would get even worse if we played
today. 90% of the field was in fine shape and would have survived a few
games without much damage. On the whole, the one thing I do like about soccer is that the guys
playing it are built more or less like me for the most part. Whether or
not that makes them wusses is, as they say, for others to decide. -

Hey - how'd the muscical performance go Friday night?
According to my wife and kids, I did good. It felt fine to me - I
played what I was supposed to when I was supposed to play it.How the pro's manage to sit through 3 movements of a symphony then play
the fourth is beyond me. For all my "I'm don't need any stinkin'
warmups" when I lift, I sure need them to play the French Horn. I'll
find out next week if it was taped and, if it was, I'll see if I can get
a clip to post. Thanks for asking - it was fun to do, and it was my first horn solo
ever. I suspect the next one will be a long time in coming, however. 🙂The horn lick on the record has an interesting story with it - it was
played by Al Kooper, a keyboard player, not a horn player. I guess he
must have played the horn when he was a kid or something like that.More minutiae: The sound of the horn on the Stones recording is, to my
ears, not that of a typical modern French Horn but of a Vienna horn, a
sort of sub-species of horn that makes that particular kind of sound.
If you go to, e.g., http://www.viennahorns.com, you can listen to some
stuff there. Try http://www.viennahorns.com/mp3/vienna_horns_04.mp3 for
but one example - there are more on the sites, just follow the links to
their album.Compare it to a more normal modern French Horn sound - try
http://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=1184211&title=New+York+Legends+-+Philip+Myers%2c+Principal+HornHere's the clip from track #2:
Phil Meyers is my favorite French Horn player.
e.g., and you'll find the Vienna horn much more understated and muted
sounding. For some, the Vienna Horn is the "true" horn sound and all
others are bastardizations I lust after a Vienna Horn - my wife says,
at the rate I'm progressing and for the thousands of dollars they cost,
she'll consider getting me one for my birthday - when I turn 65. 🙂 -

"cold" sound, yet powerful and dramatic. Sonata for 4 Horns is a fine
example. Here is an excerpt -
