McD and Tomatoes?

fact, I know I had the "Hamburger Royale" back in the 90's (In Europe,
admittedly) with tomato slices. I forget what the current name is but
I've had it on occasion.
And McDonalds fries still rock when they're hot and crispy. Unlike the
horrid flavorless things Burger King passes off as fries. My ideal fast
food meal would be a Junior Whopper with cheese from BK and a small bag
of McDonalds fries.

McD sells the quarter pounder with onion and pickle or the big mac with
lettuce, onion and pickle.

Maybe an average tomato slice is larger than the meat patty!?

All I remember about their fries was when they cooled off they were
inedible. But that's probably been covered to death in another thread.

Yeah, they did a burger with a tomato back in the early 90s that
featured a slice of tomato, lettuc, and mayo. Unfortunately, unlike the
spartan dab of kethup and mustard they barely apply (mcd invented
cheap), they drowned the damn thing in mayo, to the point where it
was squeezing out of the bun and all over your hands and overwhelmed
the flavor. McD hasn't made anthing good to eat in 40 yrs.

Okay, I'm not really sure how much of this will be valid, but here goes.
Currently, McDonald's has a Fresh-n-Tasty burger. Basically, a wannabe
Whopper.

Back in the day... there was a McDLT, where 'the hot stays hot and the cool
stays cool.' Basically the meat and bottom bun on one side of the package,
while the top bun, lettuce, and tomato (don't remember what condiments were
used) were on the other side of the package. I want to say that this was in
the late 80's though, and not the 90's.

The reason I mention that this may not be valid, is that there's a huge
local rumor that has persisted for a long time in this area (upper East
Tennessee) is a test market for McDs. There were items introduced here that
didn't make it anywhere else. I don't know how much faith I put into this
story. So, if it sounds like I'm farting instead of talking, I'm really not
trying to talk out my ass.

I remember both the McDLT and the Big & Tasty. (2 different burgers).
They were sold in selected MickeyD's in the northeast, but no longer
available where I live. They also had a double cheesburger L.T. for
$1.29 a few years ago.

For a chain burger joint, they were pretty good, and I'd go to McD's
more often if they were still on their dollar menu.

I think the quality of the product depends on having a good manager in
the store.

I have a 5 year old, and not a lot of money. A B&T w/ cheese and med
fry (with a free water) is less than $2.50 including tax.

If I eat there, I get 2 B&Ts, no mayo, no ketchup, extra pickle. I
take off the lettuce and tomato and eat those first. Then I take two
napkins, and use them to smash each patty against the bottom buns,
which saturate with grease, and the bottom buns and napkins go it the
trash. Then I take the two top buns, put mustard on them, put the
patties, pickles and onions back on, and I have a double burger for 2
bucks.
What I SHOULD DO, is throw away ALL the buns.
So, my son and I can both eat for <$5.

Can't answer your question about McDonalds but wondering if anyone
remembers Burger Chef which was founded in Indianapolis and ruled over
every fast food joint in Indiana for decades before locking the doors in
the 1980's.

I always felt they had the better burgers - Big Chef- & prices and still
miss this corporation and their condiment bar for sandwiches which I
always pile on the onions -after work hours-.

I agree though, McDonalds has had at least one sandwich with tomato on
it for years. Back in the early 80's (I think), they had the McDLT (or
something like that) where the sandwich was served in a special
container with the cold ingredients separate from the rest of the
sandwich and they used to advertise it as "keep the cold food cold and
the hot food hot" or something to that effect.

I believe they used to have the McLean. It had the meat patty on one
side, on half the bun, and the produce (including tomato) on the other
side, on the other half of the bun. My wife used to eat these, although
I never did. I can live without tomato, and what's the point of eating
a big greasy burger if it doesn't have grease?
