well the water proof Paradigm that we all received a letter last Sept stating it was NOT WATER PROOF has come up with a new game.
they are sending out letters reminding us that summer is here and NOT to get it wet or it could shut down. <i have gone through 2> they want you to sign the letter and mail it back.
seems to me they are getting tired of sending out replacement pumps.
by signing the letter and sending it back you won't get a replacement if it fails because you were told not to get it wet.
my law suit is almost over with them and they are having to refund almost 100% of my money. thank god for Lantus

what ever you do don't send the letter back!
It sucks that the company that makes an otherwise great product can act so irresponsibly. They lost my respect when we got the first letter last year regarding the Paradigm's lack of water tightness. In fact, I was the one who posted the letter on line.
Just going to put my 2 cents on this Medtronic thing. I worked at a telephone answering service where they were customers. We'd had them a long time, the same head rep was there, but the underlings changed alot. The head guys was a prince, maybe a king (wanted to give him room for growth !), responsible, and as good as he could be. I loved him, as a customer. What a guy ! Then all of a sudden they tried to cheapen how they got service. They tried a number of things, and when it wasn't working out, they went to an in-house system, I think, at the home office. So something was wrong there. They never gave any indications about the reason for this move. The head rep was a real sweetheart well liked by all the medical pros we talked to and so was his second in command. Since I had spoken to thm for like 8 years, i knew them a bit, and they were seeming a little bit terse, when thy left. No fault of ours ... they were #1 in terms of how we babied their account. They started making rep changes and one of them was a total jerk. I mean, he did not fit at all in to ANY of the previous molds. They also did pacemakers and all follow up care for those, and went in to surgery as the company rep and helped with the implantations. They were busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. Somehing about the company definately changed. It just wasn't the same anymore. Just putting my 2 cents in. Thought what was being said was interesting. Rainbow
The reasoning behind the deal is interesting. Medtronics is a world leader in implantable devices. They want an insulin pump manufacturer so that they can develop implanted bG sensors and implanted pump components and become a world leader in self-contained, automatic bG control systems.
They have a device in clinical trials right now which lasts about a year before the body fluids destroy its effectiveness. That's a surgically implanted bG sensor which sends radio signals to an Insulin Pump to control bG somehow. I don't know if the pump automatically turns on, or just figures out what the owner should do and displays its guess for the owner to decide.

Did I see something about Medtronics having some kind of ownership change?
Yes, MiniMed was taken over by Medtronic; The underlying cause of this was that the founder?? and president of MiniMed got so old that he just had to retire. I assume that he thought that this sale was in the best interests of his customers and shareholders.
