Timing is everything, innit? I'm moving house this Sunday. To my girlfriend's house. In Footscray. I was off the bike a lot over Xmas/New Years and am only now beginning to get back to what little form I had. Given that I'm not going to ride to Doncaster from Footscray, and THEN attempt my first BR, I may appear next weekend, poseur style, with bike on bikerack on gf's car. The rack can easily hold two bikes so if I am going to do that then I can offer lifts to those who are sorta, kinda on the way and can live with the shame of it all.

Well in that case, park around the back of Shoppingtown and then do a quick sprint around the block to the meeting point. Then you can claim a long ride to get there and an excuse on the hills. 🙂

Nah, my excuse is that I'm not all that fit and that all my riding is recreational/commuting; that is, I do no actual training or racing. Oh, and that I seldom ride more than 45-50km at a time and more often about 18km at a time (commute).

What I find hard to work out is why my commute, 15km each way at avg 20kmh, always seems so much harder than a training ride of 50km+ at avg 24kmh??

I can but hope that that's the case when I try the BR. Footscray to East Kew is a doddle.
Hmm. When I come in through cyclingforums.com, it logs me in and I'm a registered user. When I try going in through the news reader in Outlook Express, it doesn't and I can't find an option to log in. Is that just an artifact of cyclingforums.com or am I missing something? I also seem to miss some threads by just using the news reader.

That's easy. If your commute is anything like mine, you have to stop/start/slowdown much more than a Sunday morning training ride. I'm lucky to see 29km/h average on my speedo after a commute (more often in the 27s), but I can average about 35 on a Sunday morning ride over flat/low rolling terrain.
It's all those bl**dy motorists clogging up the roads!

Will you be joining the BR this Sunday?
I should be there in the morning and I will more than likely be bringing along my niece who will probably woop me up every hill whilst hardly breaking a sweat. Hope we get a fine day!!

You're bringing somebody who's fit? Oh man... or woman, as the case may be - see you both then.
