Michelin P2R weights

I use the P2R 700x25's sometimes. I weigh 230lbs, so I have a much
greater need for more the larger casing. But I'd be surprised the
difference were ONLY 60g. The 25's seem way bigger and beefier than
the 23's IMO.

I think 90-95psi is too high for the 25's if you only weigh 160. Maybe
you run overly high pressures on 23's making them unnecessarily harsh?
I'd suggest 23's at 100-105 for a 160# rider.

My current tire I am phasing out my P2R's with is the Vittoria Evo
Pave 24. It's got a herringbone tread which I don't care for, but has
a nice intermediate size casing and good puncture resistance and a
nice feel.

I'm 195lb and use them for my commuter bike, a stiff 89 Cannondale
Criterium. Usually run them 90-100lb depending on what kind of mood I'm
in. Good tires and I weighed one when new before installing: 280g for the
Pro2Race 700x25c

(with the plastic wrapper it was 312g.)

If you weigh tires from different batches they'll vary a bit but not 35g

I can't help you with your question, except to observe that wasting
your attention on 2 oz. that brings offsetting performance benefits
seems sort of neurotic. Did you lose by .05 seconds in last year's
Tour de France or something?

I run mine in the 95 psi range. I really like them too, and I don't
care about the weight, it is just the clearance issues that bother me.
If they were a tad smaller I'd be happy as a clam.

Wow only one person, so far, who seems upset that I asked a question about
component weights. Things are improving. I guess I should have devoted the
time I took obsessing on this to solving the situation in Darfur.

If you read my post it was not only a query about weight, and I was just
curious at what seemed like a surprising difference, I was more concerned
about how fat the 25s were. It makes removing the wheel a PITA. Anyway,
are you telling me you never check out the weights of parts you put on your
bike? Yeah, right.

Are you sure? That is a very heavy wrapper. My wrapper weigh 28 gr.

Dan Donnelly calls this a 700x26mm tire contrary to Michelin. Mine
measure out to 26mm. Unknown on tire weight but agree w/ many posters,
very good comfortable tire.

Do your brakes not have release levers on them? Or is this a too-
short chainstay issue?

No, sometimes I compare weights so I can be confident that a given
component will be heavy enough to suit me. But I am a special case in
that regard. For me to ride a bike that weighed in at the UCI limit,
for instance, would be like a pro racer riding a bike that weighed
between five and seven pounds, proportionally speaking. I use things
like BMX cranks and tandem wheels in part *because* they are heavy.

I happily use 700x60 road tires on 38mm wide rims. My "skinny" tires
are 700x35s and are mounted on nice sturdy 23mm wide 48 hole rims.
And I really _don't_ know how much they weigh.

If you have a cricket-like build, I can see why you'd gravitate
towards lightweight equipment. But come on-- are there not other
things about a tire that are more important to you than a couple of
ounces more or less?
