  1. Can anyone help me?
These were for sale at the Oriental market yesterday.
I bought some, but I know what Oyster mushrooms look like,
    and these are NOT them!

What are they and how should I prepare them?
Since they are mostly stem, I'm dubious about how good they will be...

    Thanks!

Well the label says "Oyster Mushrooms Large" and I'm not sure if they are
exactly what it's labeled. They're huge, whatever they are. I'd clean 'em
up, cut the mushroom cap off and do a nice saute' of the mushroom caps.
I'd save the stems and put them through a food processor and make mushroom
    soup.

Those are giant circumcised penis mushrooms. Heat them up slowly or
    they will explode.

Oh, heck. There was something like this on Iron Chef America last night
Flay vs. ?? Alton Brown didn't know what it was and I think the challenger
said it was from the Pacific NW. Sorry, I was falling asleep at the time
(IC comes on here at midnight).

    That's why I bought them. ;-)

Thinking about slicing them lengthwise, marinating and grilling.

    Kind of looks like these:

(also known as King Oyster mushrooms, so the label isn't that far off
    if that's what you've got!)

Well, I did post this to alt.nature.mushrooms so I'm sure they can tell
    me!

If not, I'll e-mail Stammetts people at fungiperfecti.com and beg them
    for an ID.

They get so many e-mails, I hate to bug them!

Cute! Haven't I seen them in cartoons?

I googled images and they look suspiciously like cepe or porchini
mushrooms.... so they could be from that family.

Also there is a mushroom called Beech (Hypsyzygus tessulatus):

This will keep you busy for a while:

I guess the only way to know for sure is to ask at the store or send
the photo to a mycological society for identification. Report back if
    you ever figure it out!
