Except the local paper is supposed to check out valid names and addresses,
as they will not print out any letter without a full name and address being
supplied. Don't know if they use the electoral register but IIRC they are
supposed to check.

addresses, as they will not print out any letter without a full name and
address being supplied. Don't know if they use the electoral register but
IIRC they are supposed to check.

I guess the only 'real' check is to send the correspondent a letter to
confirm who they are .. which would need a second reply to the newspaper,
and would tend to be a tad long-winded as well as maybe putting a lot of
people off actually corresponding.

If they do use the electoral roll, then if they're printing your name and
address then anyone also has access to that same resource and can get your
full address quite simply.. As you have had some letters printed already,
then they probably just believe who the imposter says he is ..

It's a bit of a worrier actually .. being impersonated so easily, albeit on
a local newspaper, would make me wonder why someone would do it, and are
they likely to escalate the impersonation to something else.

I think it might be worth speaking, on a personal level, to an editor or
someone 'higher up', and maybe even have a word with the police ...

POLICE CAUSED A TRAFFIC JAM

I Was on Spring Bank West last Wednesday in a long, long line of
traffic, which I thought was caused by an accident.

When I eventually got to Walton Street railway crossing, I realised
what the traffic jam was all about.

It was caused by the police stopping and checking all vehicles to see
if they were insured, taxed and with an MoT certificate and it took
seven, yes seven, police cars to accomplish this.

It's a complete disgrace the way this police manpower is used.

Yes. I have their/his first novel sitting here. Q is its name, historical
thriller is its game.

The period in which it is set is a period before bicycles were even
imagined by Da Vinci. An era I can't imagine.
