You've obviously never been to Beijing. The air pollution is so bad you often can't see to the end of the block. If you blow your nose, the kleenex is black with soot. Not a good place for athletic events. I'll be surprised if many records are broken at the Beijing olympics.

They'll probably just utter platitudes until a couple of months before and then come up with some really draconian temporary ban that palliates the problem, although it doesn't solve it.
