Still count me in for either!

I'm not bothered about how long it takes or the number of stops, will
probably get the last flight/train home on the Sunday, so an early Sat
am start should give us plenty of time. It does sound like a good
alternative to anything else next year

BTW how much sleep did you get on LEL? I am banking on doing PBP as 4
300's with a 3-4 hr kip between each leg. 4 hrs was plenty on the 600.

We had about 7 hours off each night except after the first leg when we
took 6 off (from 05:00 to 11:00) , usually we arrived at about 22:00,
ate, maybe showered, rose at 05:00 on the road at about 06:00. Here's
    the daily schedule

    Thorne - Dalkeith (410km)
Dalkeith - Langdon Beck YH (205 km)
Langdon Beck YH - Lincoln YH (283 km)
Lincoln YH - Lee Valley YH - Gamlingay (287km)
    Gamlingay - Thorne (232km)

You make it sound so easy (I know LEL is supposed to be easier than PBP
due to the lower average) Just been up the club night with someone who
rode PBP in '87, with 20 mins sleep!!
I fully intend to start with the 90 hr crowd, the DD was very
reassuring as I rode straight through the night and could easily have
ridden another 1-200k before I needed to crash ( as Dave L showed)

Does LEL expand to a return journey from the big stink to the
    scottish capital?

    Quoted message said:

If so, how long do you take for it?

    Quoted message said:

    One day .... not credible.

    Quoted message said:

A couple of weeks ... well, that's ordinary touring.

    ?????

LEL runs from near London (Lee Valley YH) to near Edinburgh (Dalkieth)
and back. Thorne starters started in South Yorkshire, went north, then
    south, then back to Thorne.

Time allowed was between 47 and 116 hours (12-30kph)

    Easter would be good.
The main issue will be which route over the hills. Which way did LEL
    cross the pennines?

Up Teesdale, Barnard Castle to Alston over Yad Moss, then on to
Brampton. I have tentavily signed up for a weekend in Wales, cycling of
course at Easter. Just to get this clear, I was thinking of a tour for
this, 80-100 miles per day staying indoors each night.

Keep me posted. I am almost certain to be doing something else but if
not then I'd be interested in joining the group somewhere in the North
Pennines for the rest of the trip to Edinburgh.

    Have you seen my house? ;-) it's a question of time;
I really want to do la Marmotte next year, and the year after is of
course PBP. I ought to do 2 400's as well (Invicta and a home made

La Marmotte isn't a bad prep for PBP I'd say. If you can get fit enough to ride that
in a decent time, you should be able to do PBP the year after.

I'd recommended La Marmotte; I did it last year and had an excellent time. It
is a *very* hard ride though. Do lots of hills before you go!

An excellent report of the recent London-Edinburgh-London run, worth as

Absolutely barking. As if the LEL was not mad enough he does it on a fixed!

My panniers are packed for the E2E. We set off for cornwall
tomorrow afternoon. 11th Aug is day one for E2E. I'm excited and
a tad anxious as I seem to have a trapped nerve in my
neck/shoulder. My GP has suggested getting Yoga video and
attempting to make a fool of myself.

I'll be maintaining a Blog. I'll post details later.

Good luck, Vernon. Just keep the pedals turning.

It's Phil Chadwick, I think. He always rides fixed.

seriously fit though, he left me for dead on both the Elenith and
Denmead 400, on fixed natch. It could also be Steve Airey.

Phil, Judith Swallow and I finished the Denmead 400 together as a
little grouplet, and although I had caught them up about an hour
previously I was struggling to hang on to them by the time we actually
got in. You had an excuse for slowing up in that you were dying of
exposure at the time. I think the author must be Phil rather than Steve
as I met him in Scotland coming south as I was going north and he was
    swathed in blood-stained bandages.
