That was bad. When the TV image showed him hung up there I thought for a
moment that it was a freeze frame -- then I realized it was real time. Ugh.

People have figured out that if they jump Petacchi in the sprint he's
easy to beat, but if they wait for him to start it they're sprinting for
second place. Two years ago they were still letting Petacchi begin. He
should have started his sprint when his second leadout man drifted back
and waved his arm at Petacchi. Two seconds later Freire began, and
Petacchi was screwed.

It's a surprisingly-strong team. Popovych, Contador, Davis, Levi... even
without Basso, there's a lot of talent for them to waste by not building a
team around them (the "Boonen effect" could do a repeat a year or two down
the road). Contador in particular, I would expect to be offered a whole lot
of money by a Spanish team.

I don't think it's that surprising. Bruyneel's been good at spotting
talent from the very beginning.

Five Gerolsteiner's in crashes! No wonder my pick of Schumacher from a
small break never happened: no help :-(

Its all in the difference between managing a small break (happened)
and managing a small break away (nope). And BTW broken noses don't
count.
