  1. I had a couple of pork chops thawed, waiting their fate.
All this talk about rice, been some time since I've made
    rice.

Brought the grill out of exile this weekend, it's nice enough
to cook on it now ... Broiled them with just some salt and
pepper, served it with basmati rice (salted and buttered) and
    some broccoli florets.

Simple, but really good for some reason. Really nice chops
    from Costco.

Tomorrow night, stuffed flounder a la Jill.

  2. We're having:

A stew of chickpeas, tomatoes, and potatoes, topped with crumbled feta
    Cornbread
Steamed asparagus and sugar snap peas
    Waldorf Salad

But theis damn newsgroup is giving me a MASSIVE pizza craving!!

Costco has (or used to, at least) 10 lb. burlap bags (with a liner) of
basmati from India. Is that what you had? It makes a terrific pilaf,
    too.

Meat offerings at my supermarkets continue to decline as to quality and
price. I am more and more willing to put up with the terrible parking
at Costco and the usual necessity to freeze portions of their large
packages. I quit going for a while because we were feeling guilty
about all those impulse buys..... -aem

I can't use that much rice, I just have some brand I got from
    the store.

That's a very big reason I joined the first time. Besides that my store
had very little selection in just about everything, their meat was really
nasty. It's better now, much better, but still, Costco meat is still
    better.

I like bringing home a mess of meat from there and giving it
    the old Tilia routine. (smile)

Heh, I don't blame you. I do much better now, more disciplined,
as they opened one about 10 easy miles from me, I can just go over
anytime. Used to be a trek so I guess I would get more because
who knows when I'd be back.

And I've learned the lesson, make *really* sure you'll use that
    up.

    <lol> I know what you mean. ;-)

We had grilled salmon with steamed chaote (sp?) and some black rice
cooked in chicken stock with the usual oriental flavorings.

I had pork and rice too. First time in ages for pork.

    A stir fry...
    strips of pork tenderloin
    orange bell pepper
    yellow caribe peppers
    green jalapeno peppers
    button mushrooms
ginger, garlic, scallions, red pepper flakes,
fish sauce and green curry paste
    over jasmine rice.

It's nice to be able to eat 20 minutes after walking in the door.

Did you pre-cook the rice? :-)

No. I make it in the microwave. 1 cup rice, 2 cups water in
a microwave-safe covered bowl. 5 minutes on the highest setting,
which brings the water to a boil, then 15 minutes on the lowest
setting, which finishes steaming it. That cooks it to my liking.

You're right though, that is the longest part of the process.
It gives me plenty of time to lesiurely chop up all the vegies
and enjoy a beer. The stirfry only takes 3 minutes.
