That's an insanely sick excursion. I probably would have murdered you
and cannibalized your body four hours into it, if I had been there. I keed.
Screwball maps! Sounds like my Grand Traverse 11 hour nightmare.

Very nice pictures and this sums it up succinctly:
"I consider myself a pretty good climber and this trail kicked my butt." If
it only kicked your butt it would have killed me.

Wow. Almost 6k' of vertical gain! I haven't had a misadventure like that
in a while. They're bound to happen every now and then here in the Wild
West.
Glad you made it.

Had I taken you on this I would have foregone the road approach and had us
shuttled to the trailhead. Still, 22 miles from there to the end. Trails
like this make me understand JD's use of toe clips with good walking/hiking
shoes.......

It's the only time where I've sat down and wanted to go to sleep while on a
ride......thankfully all the flying creatures limited stops to a few minutes
or else I would have been even longer on the trail.

In all actuality my ride time was 6:10....I just forgot to figure in all the
downed trees and my inability to stay on the bike while
climbing.......descending........and any other times I was pushing my bike.
At one point on the climb to Wilsons Peak the rains from earlier in the week
had taken out about 100 yards of trail (major flash flood residue). I
didn't know if the trail went up, down or across. I was lucky and picked
the 'across' and came right to the trail.
Fun stuff, I just wish I would have had a riding partner.......oh
Mitch.....?
hehehehehe

I've definitely been there a couple of times. Especially after it got dark.

Move already! 🙂
Now that Shawn is metro I need to get him out on some rides. He's sort
of the opposite of you. He can't climb very fast but smokes me in the
downhill. There's got to be a happy median somewhere.

Wow, I'd probably not attempt something like for the first time as a
solo, but what an adventure. Reminds me why the girls last year named
you ole Iron thighs or was it buns of steel or something like that.
But great pictures and way to get after it, compaghre.

Nice Gary!
I tell all newcomers to the area, you have to embrace climbing in this
part of the world, otherwise you're never having fun.
Sounds like you are well on your way to becoming a real climber!

Hey I'm working on it (the climbing part)! Did a couple rides in
between moving duties. I love this low altitude riding (5350 feet).
Amazing the dif 2000 feet makes. :-)

I was thinking the same thing about the difference between riding at 9000
and the high of 10800 I reached. Reminds me of the one time I went skiing
in Vermont and couldn't understand why at 4:00 pm I was still wanting to
scream down the mountain then realizing that the mountain top was at 4000
feet.......
