1. I have wanted a decent racing bike for a long time, but have never had the money to buy one. I found this bike gathering dust at the back of a used bike shop in Brighton and decided to slowly fix it up as and when I could afford the parts. Most of the bits have been bought from e-bay. I used the finished bike in the South coast Triathlon a couple of days ago. It was so much fun overtaking people on their super expensive carbon fibre speed machines knowing that i had pretty much built this bike myself for a fraction of the cost.

enjoy the pics, any feedback or suggestions for future improvements would be most welcome.

Here it is the day i bought it.

First quick improvements, a new saddle from the pound shop (rubbish) and some bar tape. I also removed the old rotten brake hoods.

Two new tyres from e-bay and a second hand replacement rear derailleur. I also added some pedal cages. The tyres were actually too narrow for the old wheels, so the rear one kept on falling out while i was riding.

Some new wheels complete with new rear cassete and a new saddle. im calling it finished now.

So there you are. a fun little project. I would say that i probably didnt save that much money by doing it this way, but it was really interesting to work on and it felt great competing on something i had worked on myself. I definately learned a lot.

  2. How long do I have to be here before My posts can be put up without being checked by a mod first??

  3. Wow, what an improvement at so much less cost. Great job.

  4. I loved that bike with all my heart. I was so proud of it and I was really looking forward to doing more triathlons.

    Last night it was stolen.

I sit here a broken man.
