Hello everyone just to let you all know i have no knowledge at all in terms of bikes other than how to ride one. The query i have is as follows in around 2001 i acquired a colnago bike, in a horrible condition from a garage sale, the bike looks very old. i had no idea that colnago was even a repuitable brand, and what i am interested to find out is what model it is? what year? if its worth restoring? and a value on it off course, as i dont know if i have time to restore so may need to sell.
I am not sure what information to give so if you can direct me eg tell me where secret number may be hiding or dimensions which may help etc...
All i know is that when we got it it was black with the typical colnago stickers and has mavic hubs and shimano gears.
Are the rear seat stays(tubes that come up from the rear-triangle.... and connect to the top-tube/seat post area) brazed on (ie. the tubes are NOT FLUSH with the top-tube- stick out ) ??
Heres a pic of it all. The seat is a turbo seat and has shimano dura-ace on the stem. The pedal things are campagnolo and has 170 STRADA (2) on it. The gears are shimano suntour superb pro. About the question the seat pole is not flush triangle if that is what was meant sorry am not too sure hopefully you can tell from the picture. i can take more photos on request
i cant seem to find the serial number i also checked the rear drop out as i read somewhere that it was marked there on older models are there any other places to look? I am thinking that maybe it is hidden under a layer of paint so il have a closer look in the morning. Thanks
That does not look like a Colnago, based on the lugwork, unless it was completely custom. Assuming that the frame is steel and at least 20 years old, there should be a cutout on the underside of the bottom bracket shell of a clover leaf (Colnago's emblem). If there isn't one, that fact plus the unusual lugs and the absence of a serial number strongly suggest that this is not a Colnago.

yea it does have a cut out where you said and has colnago engraving in a few places and also has campagnola on the bit where the back wheel bolts on lol im sure thats not how you term it. am still unable to find a serial though
A friend fo my mothers who is into road bikes has had a look at it and said that it is an original in his opinion
Looks like early '80s Colnago from the gruppo, the frame design didn't change much over the years except for going to newer tech tubing like SLX from the earlier straight-gauge tubing. It's a decent frame, with decent parts. Worth more as a vintage collector's item rather than outright performance by today's standards. Do a nice custom paint-job and it'll be a decent bike.

What may help is that if you can take some close up pictures of certain areas of the frame. That way someone may be able to identiy it. from this picture i can't really tell the finer details pf the bike.
